For those considering Rigmaster...

I've had mine 4 years now. 10723 hours. Here's a list of the major highlights of things done other than routine...

3 mufflers
2 exhaust flex pipes
crankshaft seal
2 condenser fans (unit just overheated because it needs a new one)
a/c compressor
2 water pumps (the one installed Oct. last year showing signs of leaking)
radiator
thermostat
glow plugs need replaced yearly

I met a guy in Laredo a while back that traded his in for a different brand because he was tired of the repairs. I thought that was a bit much, at the time. I'm starting to feel like it wasn't such a bad idea.

This thing is a hugely disappointing piece of crap. The folks I've talked to with other brands don't have nearly the major repairs I've had. When you add these repairs to routine stuff, it's cost quite a bit to keep this thing going.

I'll probably go with the RV style gen w/roof air on my next truck. But, whatever I do, it won't be a Rigmaster!

Our experience has been better than Highway Stars, we have 5959 hours on our RigMaster after 6 years. The replaced parts beyond normal service items ( belts, filters ) include,

2 engine speed sensors
1 condensor fan (my fault)
1 circuit board (my fault)
1 heater control unit
1 muffler (my fault)
1 flex pipe
1 exhaust elbow
1 alternater
1 set of glow plugs

Some say glow plugs are a normal replacement item something like spark plugs. As far as I'm concerned this unit is little more than a freestanding engine with some accessories. It is mechanical and things will fail, all in all we have been happy with ours. I will say finding parts and service has proven to be difficult, these things never seem to break down when you are sitting next to a dealer, however, Paccar has stepped up and most of it's dealer network carries some parts or can get them overnight from their warehouses.

As with anything there are good ones that hardly ever need repairs, and there are the ones that hang on the frame not functioning because of major repair expenses.

10,960 hrs on mine 5yrs. old. we have replaced 4 alternators, the original lasted 4yrs. that replacement drivers in our truck burnt up do to trying to charge up dead batteries. one had a bad regulator from the get go and i am replacing that one now. on my 3rd set of glow plugs. other than belts and service, knock on wood, ours has been a pretty reliable unit. we, however have had an issue with its cooling capabilities since it was new. just will not keep the truck cool when the temp is above 85 outside. or at least not cool enough. im sure the a/c compressor is getting to where it will need replaced and when it does we will put on a roof top unit.

Well, maybe this is a bit apples and oranges, but the only other experience I have with this sort of thing is the motorhome I used to have. It got used very heavily for 5 years. Thousands of hours on the generator and nothing but oil changes, filters and spark plugs. Nothing at all on the roof air, it just kept working.

When I look at the Rigmaster, with all that it does out of that box it's in, I didn't expect to have no repairs at all. But it's just been too much. Especially when you spend $1,100 on Tuesday and another repair pops up on Sunday. Maybe I just need a good primal scream...

Nope. That didn't help.

Less than 3000 hrs.
1 Radiator
1 overflow bottle
1 fuel pump
1 water pump
1 generator
1 set glow plugs.

The Perkins engine historically has been a very good product. Especially in the marine environment. We had a 4-108 40 HP on a sailboat for 25 years with about 11000 hrs on it. Bought a remanufactured long block from Transatlantic Diesel out of Deltaville VA for $4500 with a warranty, exchange and freight. Took me about 2 days to R&R the engine. Sherry there knows everything about Perkins. Marcus, the owner, is Perkins factory trained in England. By the way, if the engine is green it is made in England, Orange made in Spain. Unless things have changed, that's how it was up to 2005.
