Has anyone ever seen a tri-axle truck? Or a dual axle with a 3rd lift axle? I know with a dual you get around 52-53000lbs, but only 18-22 payload. So with a 3rd that would jump to 35k or so - a fully loaded 18 wheeler load limt. I'm getting back into expediting after taking a break and try to reclaim the thousands I lost from my previous owner, who now owes me close to $100,000 due to legal cost. I want to get a fully loaded rig, lift gate, dual axle, class 8, reffer, etc. Lastly, how's freight been for elite panther drivers?

- Oh and BTW, I still want my expidters retreat in Kentucky - just have to get the permits for tigers, those don't come cheap I found out.

I did see an M2 with dual drive axles plus an air tag. He had a liftgate and around 20' of box. It was a canadian truck, ADCO i think..

Actually be cause of the bridge law you only get a usable 46k with tandems rear axel limit of 34k unless the 2 axels are 10ft apart, if you ad a 3rd think you only get 48k on the rear and then your front of 12k would give total of 60k usable GVW so not so bad but not 18 wheeler. Should be able to hall this is rough estimate though 30k to 32k. if you go reefer probably more like 28k.

If it goes in a 20 to 24 foot straight box,the pay will only be a D unit pay,or if refridgerated,DR pay,so why waiste the money on a 3rd lift axle, and tractor trailers in expedite dont need 6 axles

Others will probably disagree but that sounds like way too much truck for about 98+% of the time unless you run your own authority and spend every non-driving minute booking double and triple loadings into the truck. For that matter, a tandem is overkill most of the time and costs you higher tolls and tire expense among other things.

I don't care bout being paid for E rate, just be able to take every load that there is, we all know there is those pallets out there that weigh 30-35k and only take 10 feet.

Leo is right way too much truck for most of what we do, good share of the time its under 1000 lbs in the box, but its your $$$$ spend it the way you want come back later and let us know if it paid off.
I once thought of getting a cabover and a 28’ box and 3 axels then I did the math wasn’t going to get paid for 28’ so why drag it around I used to have a 26’ and a small sleeper and yeah it got filled up a few times but guess what didn’t make me more $$$ at all they would of still called for a D unit just they found they could fit 2 more stacks of empty totes in so they of course did!

o/o till i die

I have met one guy with a pete that had 3.He worked for a company called haulin assets out of TN. Says he stays busy and really likes the 3rd.He calls me about once a week and I have to say most of the runs he is doing go over 1000 miles.

He claims he will deadhead 5 or 6 hundered miles sometimes for expedite freight and he says they call him with alot of freight that goes to canada and most of time he is getting around $2.25 per mile
and that the lift paid for itself in about a month.

I would not suggest going out and doing it but I can see there is a nitch in the market for these type trucks and at least one company is successful with this type set-up

T: Contrary to what these Expedite Contractors are typing to you, there is a nitch market for that type of truck. And they stay very busy. Most, depending whom they work for will see little if any benefit for the expense. We utilize 26-30 foot van bodys and curtainsides. Some with split tandems. The most recent addition to the fleet is a 28 footer with liftgate, tandem and 3rd axle as you question about. Depending on the wheelbase of a truck, even considering bridge laws in some states we can still CARRY 30,000#
We DO realize additional revenue for efforts. Don't let the nay-sayers spoil your plans to excell. Recently a poster announced the cristening of a new truck in his fleet, a nice truck. But, to me, that is a waste of good money spent by not finishing the job of putting together equipment that'll "git-r-done". If you want more info, pm me, or call 812 663-6834.
