We discovered that for a quick rolling breakfast, the Southbeach diet bars are great. The have higher protein and less carbs than the normal breakfast bars. They are filling and you don't get the "crash" that the other sweet bars have.
Also, for that "chocolate" craving....they sure are healthier than a candybar. :)

Thanks for posting this! Our doctor has just put us on the South Beach diet! Actually this diet looks healthy and we are really enjoying it so far. All that protein keeps us going and it is nice to be able to pick up some already prepared meals (both frozen and refrigerated) for the truck when we don't have time to stop and fix something. india

Fruit juice is good for hypoglycemia, it's fast. I don't know if it's that last thing you mentioned - I can't figure out what it is....

This is just the kind of pointless, inane remark that discourages people from posting. I enjoy BamBam's observations, and I'm sure others do, too. If you don't, how about if you just skip over them without comment, instead of being the kind of smart*** that makes people keep their observations to themselves...

Only the name of the innocent has been changed......these are YOUR words Cheri, from an old post.

Practice what you preach.

Bambam,

I'm not sure about the hypoglycemic effectiveness, because these bars are lower in carbohydrates, and higher in protein. I would think that eating anything would raise your blood sugar level. These bars were recommended by a diabetic friend of mine.

India,
Have you tried any recipes based on the south beach diet?

Pointless & inane? I don't think my reply was that - I offered a quick & easy solution to morning hypoglycemia, to start with.
Smart***? Not even close - an honest observation that while spelling & grammatical errors are frequently committed, and overlooked, there comes a point when it's virtually impossible to decipher the poster's meaning. I can't derive any benefit from comments I don't understand.
This is a subject we've gone over before, and the general consensus seems to be: readers will overlook a lot of misspelled words, and bad grammar, and typos, provided the meaning is clear. When it isn't, a little proofreading is in order, out of common courtesy, not to mention common sense.
I've certainly contributed my share of pointless, inane, and even smart*** comments, but this wasn't one of them.

I disagree, it's pointless to continue to publicly point out spelling and grammar mistakes and it certainly comes off as a smart #####, better than you attitude.

Once again, DD, we're just going to have to agree to disagree on the subject, and let it end there.

Lets get back on track!

Breakfast to me is the hardest meal of all in the truck. I start driving at 2:00 in the morning and usually don't want anything till about 4:00. I am always looking for something that does not have to be heated and I can eat while driving. Most of everything that fits that bill is bad for you! I have been working on the WW plan and so have been eating a lot more fruit.

I like to get a bag of Cheerios, (or the offbrand 'Scooters', lol) and add whatever dried fruits, (dates, cranberries, cherries, blueberries, raisins), and nuts, (including soynuts) I have around, making a "driver chow" that I can munch on while driving. And I've also become very fond of frozen fruit chunks, especially mango! If you happen to eat at one of the buffets, like Ryan's, you can get a styrofoam container 'to go', filling it with fresh fruit or whatever you might want later, and pay according to the weight. (Pineapple & berries don't weigh much!)
Pita pocket bread is good, you can make a pile of sandwiches when you have time, putting each in a Ziplock bag, for grabbing on the go. Add a small cup of applesauce, and it's an easy snack that won't make you feel sleepy, or overly full.
I like to keep a small half-cup container of peanut butter on the dashboard - it gets real melty in the sun, perfect for dipping crackers, pretzels, banana chunks - even dark chocolate. I haven't found a lower fat version, though.
If it's a salad I want, I throw some premixed stuff into a plastic cup, adding cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, garbanzo beans, mandarin oranges, whatever. (This part, you might want to do ahead of time, lol) In a tall cup, you can eat almost anything that you'd normally put in a bowl, while driving.
I don't know how much of this will adapt to a South Beach Diet, but it's what works for me - hope you can get some ideas.

Cheri you are full of great ideas! We also make up a munch bag with cheerios, Quaker oat squares, O's cereal, wheat chex, and for the "sweet" golden grahams. Thanks for the tips :)

For those of you that like flat bread wraps...I found some at Walmart yesterday. Brand name "Flat Out". We got the Italian Herb flavor, and they've are 90 calories, 16 grams carbs, 9 grams of fiber.
They taste really good too.

I'm having trouble finding pita bread these days. They used to have it at all the Super WalMart's but I can't seem to find it anymore. Any ideas?

Cheri, great ideas! Thanks!

Did you try asking someone (someone who actually knows what pita bread is)? If they do not seem to know where or what you are talking about, there are four different places to look, I know as I have a problem finding tortillas too. Always try by the fresh deli, then the bread aisle, in store bakery area and as a last resort try the ethnic food section. Not sure that will get you pita bread but never hurts to try.

Also just to offer MHO I wanted to say as far as the spelling a grammar go on this site I write my post in my word program and then do a grammar and spell check before I post. It is not always perfect but it does seem to help. Sometimes some stupid mistakes make it past them but at least I tried.

India, the flat bread I was talking about was found up by the deli. I know what you mean about finding pita's, tortilla's etc, it seems they are never in the same place twice! Hmmm...wonder if that's a secret exercise program? LOL
