FL 70 with Cummins 8.3L

Has anyone had experience with the Cummins 8.3L engine? I stopped by and looked at a used FL 70 the other day with one. It’s a reman with about 11,000 miles on it. Truck had a 9 speed Eaton Fuller Autoshift in it as well. I would love to hear from any o/os or fleet owners who’ve run this setup or at least specced out something similar?

I put 910,000 on a 8.3 with no rebuild or major problems. Other then alternators and water pumps which will go on any engine the only thing I had go out was a valve lifter adjusting screw. I had a Fuller Eaton 6 speed.

9 speed? wow

I have something like Rich's truck, but i have the electronic version of the engine. I wish I had the mechanical fuel injection system but alas we can't have everything.

The only thing I have problems with is the fuel pressure sensor, mine has given me trouble and cr*ped out on my while I was sitting waiting for a load.

I prefer the ISC over the Cat for a lot of reasons but one is it is a wet sleeve engine.

I would strongly suggest to get the following if you are serious about buying the truck;
get it dyno'ed
get the ECM dump - this is the only way I could find out what my problem was with the Fuel pressure sensor - the error code came out on the ECM as a non-critical error
get a vis-check
get an oil analysis

Thanks for the input. The truck has roughly 600,000 miles on it for a 2000. 72" raised roof sleeper AND cabin. 22 foot dry box. Diesel APU.

What kind of mpg are you guys getting with your Cummins FL?
