Fishing mishap

Was out fishing yesterday evening--just your standard bobber and crawler. My bobber went down fast and I pulled back. Thought I had a monster fish on the line--turned out to be a muskrat!
When I got it up close enough to determine that's what it was (6-8feet away); the line broke. Looking back, I'm glad the line did break---i guess I would have had to cut the line. Sure wasn't going to hold it down to get the hook out.

Only other oddball catch I've had was fishing in Germany, where I caught an eel---scared the heck outta me.

So, what unexpected catches has anybody else out there had?

I caught a big turtle once. I had to have my hubby take over the pole because it was so heavy and fighting so much that I thought it was going to break the pole. The line broke just as he got it about 2 feet from the dock.

Another time I was getting ready to pack it in for the night and was reeling in my line, not really paying attention when suddenly something took the line hard and took off. The line went through my fingers so fast that it burned my thumb and finger. I pulled back and the fish jumped in the air, twisted and broke the line. It was a big ol Muskie. That was the most excitement I had that whole fishing trip. lol

Fishing with my dad back in the late 60's. Not sure where we were (to young to remember) but was trolling and something took the line. My dad reeled it in, the whole time he was saying it must be a Pike or something big. Got it to the boat and a Sea Lamprae (sp) had latched onto the lure.

Went back to camp and put it in a 5gal bucket. Got up the next morning and it was gone. No clue what happened to it but as a kid I was totally fasinated by it.
