My Wife and I are getting ready to go out on the road as Expediter's. The question I have for all of you is; Understanding that there are variables whcih would apply to the answer, what could we figure to be our first year earnings, given good freight?
Thanks!

you have a open? here.First what kind of truck are you in,next do you own it.So here is my best guess. If you drive for someone else team in a cargo van anywhere from 30000 to 50000 a year.straight truck would be 40000 to 60000.and if you own your truck you should be able to add another 10000 on top. so if you hit the low side and own a cargo van as a team 40000 thats my best guess hope it helps.I cant tell you about the big rigs dont have a clue how they do.

Don't take this wrong but this should be the first question you ask before you ever consider this work. IT is very important that you align the work to your goals and needs, not the goals and needs to the work.

BUT as UD said, it all depends on what you are getting into.

Vans can do good if it is good times, the draw back to a van is the idea that you should drive for someone else - I think it is a mistake because it is a thin amount of revenue. There are people who do $30k without a problem but work at it a bit more and subject to the whims of the company (another subject and important question too).

Trucks on the other hand seem to do well overall and just working lightly, they can pull in $35k.

In a van, you have to be open and ready and willing to stay out for a few weeks at a time. Dependent upon your carriers and their ability to catch freight. Depending on the availability of freight. It's not an easy gig; but then again, nothing is. Wanderlust and the ability to amuse yourself for days on end with the southwestern Texas landscape will be a bonus....for the money? It is very very difficult to predict. A good year of $45k can easily be offset by the next year at under $25k. I hate to be vague; but there is no clear cut answer. Be ready to live frugally, for there are no good "averages" in this line of work.

But it CAN be fun!

this gets old.
what kind of truck?
will you own or drive for someone?
what do you need to make to pay your bills?
give us something firm to work with, please.
have you spoke to recruiters? what did they say?
if working for someone what is the split?
try doing a search on earnings.

There is no way to answer your question without knowing what you are going to drive.A lot has to do with where you live, who you work for,or lease to,and size of equipment, and how long your willing to stay on the road.As a team tractor,in most cases,a newbie H/W should make at least $100000,after expenses, not sure what you would make in a straight truck, and no where near that in a van or sprinter

I read somewhere straight trucks could do as much as $400.000.00 a year, but you will probably need to stay out 52 weeks, and run team 24/7.

I believe that was all his fleet of straight trucks together, cause he would have to average almost $7700 dollars a week for the 52 weeks, and in doing this, there wouldn't be time off for repairs,so then it would turn into closer to $8000 dollars a week, cause he wouldn't be driving the 52 weeks, and I'll bet you can't find 1 DR unit at fed ex cc that makes $8000 more than a few times a year. You realize that is $100000 a quarter. In fact there isn't an ER unit making that much money.I did $350000 in year 2000 there ,but that was with 2 trucks and 1 was an ER unit
