Well I finally took the plunge and was hired on with a Panthers II O/O out of Ky. I reported to pickup my new co-driver snd truck on 02-13-2005. We went Seville, Oh. on 02-14-2005 and completed 2 days of orientation , which I found interesting and imformative.
We went to Medina,Ohio Pilot and fueled up and was Qualcomm'd and told to pickup a 3000lb load going to Loredo,Tx. 1614 miles @ $1.20 a mile and $.15 surcharge on fuel. We left on the 16th and got there on the 18th a 4am , made delivery at 8am and went to the Pilot.
We set at the Pilot about 2 hrs and got a call back on a backhaul from Loredo to Hespeller , Ontario, Canada 1835 miles. We left on the 18th at 5pm and got to Canada at 2pm on the 20th, three hrs later we left Livingstons ,brokers office. We left there and started north towards London, Ont. as we went north I drove through a BLIZZARD ,winds 25 to 30 mph ,crosswinds at that. Snow was such a problem had to stop every 15 to 20 miles to beat ice and snow off windshield wipers. Trucks (semis), cars in ditches every few miles. I pulled into the truck stop near our stop at the Toyota plant. We made delivery at 7am and went to Ingersoll at 4pm and picked up load from Cami(GM) plant going to Fremont ,Oh.
We left Fremont and made delivery in Sterling Heights ,Illinois . We then deadheaded 211 miles to get load in Petrosky(sp), Mi.From there we went to Oklahoma City , backhauled to Memphis and finally deadheaded back to N.C.
So after 5094 miles and 10 days I have completed my first trip. I made $962.10 the first week , waiting for second settlement. I
I am convinced I have made the right decision and am ready to go again. I took the plunge after a lot of calls, memos, emails, postings ( on this site). I was personally helped by the likes of Terry Of terryandrene "old salt" fame, Kraig (broompilot) who I still owe an O'Doull, Tom Robertson who lead me to a good contract negotiation. Guys I owe you a lot and am very greatful.
This site is for "newbies" , it is where you learn before you earn. It is where I was helped and given solid helpful advice. I took the advice of working for someone and it was ROCK solid advice that has paid off quiet well for me.
God bless guys you came thru for me .
