FedEx Custom Critical "Service Pays Contest" is back again.

This Contest I think is better, it Gives a chance for more people to Win money. There Giving away a total of $250,000.00 again. This time there giving $10,000.00 to 25 owners.

10 Tractor winners

10 Straight-truck winners

5 Van winners

It starts at 00:01 on Sept 6, 2005 and end at 23:59 on Nov 23, 2005
But you have to be In service 80% and have an 80% load acceptance.

Well, I hope we all can try to win. I'm sure going to try. Been a bad year for my in service % because my son almost died and is just now getting to come home after being in the hosp for 8 months. So have fun drivers.

dave i am sure that you can recall from the last two contests what to expect here. things start off normal enough, but then the floodgates on the cheap frieght open up and ruin any chance of keeping your acceptance rate above the required level. i for one am not going to pay any attention to the contest, and just go on with business as usual.i think that i will come out as a winner by doing it that way.

We will continue to accept loads as allways.

Safety is the #1 consideration. Drivers are often not rested enough to accept back to back. Rough roads, toll boths, customs, Chicago area, all prevent sleeper birth occupants from getting adiquate rest.

#2 We will continue to say no to cheap freight, and will weigh very carefully all offers that do not contain a FSC.

We took 8 loads last week 3 of them did not include FSC.

Solo drivers have it made in these contest. Their rest is mandated by law.

So what do they do if they have 27 units that meet the criteria? It's really unfair to not reward everyone who meets the criteria. Any company setting up a "contest" should change it into a bonus system. Decide how much money is going to be distributed and see how many units earned the bonus during the last contest. Divide the money by the units and announce a bonus of $xxxx to all units achieving the performance goal. If fewer than last time achieve it they save a little and if a few more achieve it they spend a little more but this way every deserving unit receives their earned reward.

Sadly my company is also a "contest" company as well as a few more I hear about periodically. It's one of the few things that takes points away from them. HELLO COMPANY EXECS! DON'T YOU SEE HOW UNFAIR THIS IS OR HAVE A CLUE WHAT IT DOES TO MORALE WHEN YOU DON'T EQUALLY REWARD EVERYONE WHO EARNS IT?

To everyone other than the IDIOTS who come up with the "contest" idea instead of the fair reward idea I apologize for yelling.

I understand your point Leo, But That way would defeat the cause. If your going to stay inservice 80% and have a load except rate of 80% you want to be able to get a nice reward for doing it or it wouldn't be worth it. I know the last one they had I didn't get my name pulled, but I made great money and maybe they will pull my name this time. I could use the cash because I'm down $50,000.00 from last year because I haven't worked that much year because of my son being Ill. Wish you luck on the up coming busy time. Just Pray that Fuel cost start going down soon.

The FEDEXCC 4 star award weekend has always rubbed me the wrong way. The final criteria is how many loads you did in the past 12 months. If you meet the other criteria this is what makes the final decision. This is unfair to drivers who live outside the main shipping lanes and also to some degree the W/G units.
A W/G unit or other team unit can get dispatched on a Monday for a Wednesday pick up that goes cross country delivering on Friday or Saturday, so this truck did one trip in a week while a single driver out of the Great Lakes area may have done 4,but the team unit made more money for the company.
Also living in Texas,Florida Alabama ,Mississippi and other states will not get you. the opportunites that come to a Russian emigrant working out of Chicago. Nothing against the emigrants but this contest should be based on other factors such as revenue to the company. Now of course if you do not have a homelife somewhere you can compete with Borris etc. Been venting on this for years but to no avail..

I still have to disagree. You shouldn't have to hope your name is pulled when you've complied with the requirements. You should automatically be rewarded and not by the luck of the draw. If that means every qualifying driver gets $5000 instead of $10000 that's how it should be. Wouldn't you rather have a guaranteed $5000 for achieving the requirements than a maybe $10000?

I see your point, but I look at this way. I'm a winner either way, because it makes me stay inservice more than I would if there wasn't a contest. If there wasn't Contest I would be out of service more and making less money. So in a way it pushes me to be in service more to try to win that money. That just my way of thinking.

So you're saying if they told you up front for the same level of service you'd get a guaranteed $5000 on top of the extra money you know you are going to make for putting in the effort you wouldn't make the extra effort but if they said you'd be in a drawing where you may not get anything you're going to put in the extra effort because you might but very well may not get $10000?

I still believe they will get a greater number of trucks meeting the company's desired numbers if they guarantee a bonus amount rather than have a contest. It's fairer to the drivers and it gets the company what they want too.

Well that would be nice but I don't think they could pay almost 300 truck $5000.00 each. Thats how many trucks made into the drawing the last time. That's 1.5 million dollars. If they did it that way they would want us to be in service 90% and except 90% of the loads offered. I understand what you mean, but I dont think that FedEx would ever do that.

That's a lot of trucks into the drawing. It's more than I would have guessed. In that case they'd only be able to do about $1000 per truck but that still begs the question of whether it's better to have a 1 in 1 chance of $1000 or a 1 in approximately 285 chance of $10000. I'd go with the 1 in 1 chance of $1000 on top of the already increased income from hitting the 80%. This has been an interesting discussion. Thanks for having it with me and good luck in the contest.

If you participate in this contest it's hardly a win. At these fuel prices you will probably just break even. Considering load offers with 200-600 dead head miles, and fuel this high you're better off playing powerball! Yes, 600 dh miles, got one a couple a weeks ago. To add insult to injury it was less loaded than dead head miles.

For the yo yo's that still insist they make more money by taking every load, do us all a favor and learn how to operate your calculator. If you don't have one it's probably that you can't afford it. But, if it will detour you from taking cheap freight I would be happy to buy one for you. Try to understand they wouldn't waste their time with these low paying loads if nobody took them.

Have A Poopy Day!

I agree unless your truck runs on water.
Folks cannot afford to run these trips with any consistency or you will go broke.

Well I have to say your wrong. Last year I ran in there Contest and made did very well. I will let you be the Judge.

Here are my Avg stat's

Did 58 loads had 66 loads offered turned down 8 loads for and 87% load except rate.

$1.51 a loaded mile.

$1.10 a mile for all miles

604 miles avg per load

88% inservice for the contest

Grossed $45,765.90 and I ran team only 3/4 of time.

So I don't think I did bad.

Haven't participated with fedex giveaway but we drove for panther and from the start of the contest till the end we shorted anywhere from 10 to 50 paid miles every load til the contest was over. Sure hope fedex isn't that way.Good luck and be safe.
