Hello... I will be teaming with a guy from FL I am in Ohio. I will be on as Lead Driver the owner said he will fly the guy home when I want to come home. Is this going to work? I am excited to get back to driving str8 truck. I was driving semi up til Friday. I missed the str8 truck from when I drove them before. anyway. some quick questions.

1. If we were to break down in a unsafe area would FedEx help us get out of there?

when he flies him home , how is he going to get back? do you have to deadhead to go get him. It just seems that someone is going to far out of there way to get things done, I dont know if that would be good or bad.

Doesn't sound like a workable solution to me. How often do you want to go home? I would think the owner wouldn't want to flying the other driver R/T to Fl every few weeks. Bound to be problems with this set up.
As far as help on breakdowns,if you are loaded you will probably get help in the form of a tow and the owner might be charged back for the cost of the tow. If you are empty you might get a phone number to call for help but thats about it.

5 weeks is a long time to be with some guy you have just met and don't know his habits etc.You will literally be sleeping with a stranger.Maybe he smokes and you don't,music and radio listening habits might be different, will he compromise on issues. Just curious when you do go home how long does the owner expect you to be home before he wants you out again.

He said if we were out 5 weeks we would get up to 2 weeks off. Do you think it is werth a try?

I'm sure there are tons of offers out there that would put you in a truck with a co-driver who lives near you. I think this would be too much, personally. What happens if there's an emergency at one household or the other's? What happens if the owner renegs on his promise of a ticket? What happens if you get a load near your town or his, and one of you gets homesick? Just some things to think about. Before you decide to go with this guy, check with FXCC and see if there is what you want in your area.

Well I called the guy and told him I was not intrested. He said he would tell FedEx to never hire me again and blah blah blah.... So I will just keep driving semi for now!

Jackback57,
I'm sure if you were to call FECC recruiting and explained why you chose not to go with this owner they would understand. Furthuremore if you met FECC's driver requirements to be considered in the first place, I'm sure they would give you more names of fleet owners to contact. If you've done nothing wrong to this truck owner then he/she is full of "BS" and cant keep you from being hired on with FECC.Both you and the owner have the option to change your minds at the last minute, and that does happen. But to threaten someone for doing so is un-professional. He/She just wants you to think they can hurt you, NOT!!! Bad Owner :(

jackback,

Sounds like you ducked a bullet there. Seriously, if he was so offended you turned him down, that he threatened to "blackball" (which he can't) with the company, what kind of headcase would this have been to work for?

As many have suggested, do your research, talk to owners, talk to drivers.. the follow your gut. If you've got that 'funny feelin' about someone.. run.
