Federal agency warns of radicals on right

I like the quote from the communications guy from the VFW...

Jerry Newberry, director of communications for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, said the vast majority of veterans are patriotic citizens who would not join anti-government militias.
"As far as our military members go, I think that the military is a melting pot of society. So you might get a few, a fractional few, who are going to be attracted by militia groups and other right-wing extremists," he said

Am I incorrect in saying anti-government is NOT the same as anti-American? I think I'm not alone in saying the government is doing too much governing. In fact, the many thousands protesting in tea parties across the land, are saying the exact same thing.

This is one part of two reports that have been on going projects for years but the one about the left wing groups is severely edited and ignores groups that are actually anti-American and are anarchy in nature.

I think the next report will be of the governors who want to return the Constitution to its former form, like Rick Perry and his 10th Amendment push.

They really should be watching out for the extremes right and left. I actually consider myself almost a right edge democrat. In that I believe welfare people should be forced to work, I am not pro gun control. I believe we should be tough on crime.

The extreme left, honestly I am not sure who they are. Commies?

The extreme right does scare me, and they should scare GOP members even more. They are the ones who will hurt your causes more than lefties. The McVeighs, abortion clinic bombers, militia types are unfairly lumped into the conservative side. They talk alot of the same rhetoric as conservatives, god, country, right to bear arms, taxation not that these are bad things. It just seems to hurt your cause when it can be tough to decipher between an honest conservative and a radical.

Before you jump on me for this post. I am not trying to bait anyone here, just my observation about how conservatives words can be judged/misjudged by a reader.

Doug,
I agree with a lot you said but here is a suggestion, read about the 1915 to 1925 time period, especially about the rights of the people and how Wilson tried to destroy them. You have to understand that things like the second amendment mean a lot more today than it did in the past and what happened in this time period put a lot of bad labels on people who just simply believed in the country and the constitution.

There is a good book is Woodrow Wilson and the Roots of Modern Liberalism. Get it and read it with an open mind. You may be surprised that it may put together a pretty good picture of why a lot of us seem to be far right when we are actually like you.

That government which governs least, governs best. (Ronald Reagan).

If you feel so inclined, you can call and REPORT YOURSELF to them....(202-282-8000).....I'd already..operator 47 wouldn't put me through to napolitano, just transfered me to the "comment line...which was busy, so i found the above # , i was transfered and the guy I talked to said they are getting soo many calls they are overwelmed..I gave him my laundary list of things that put me on their list, he laughed and said he fit alot of them also. I also told him that of the weapons i own, a few of them , (well 7 to be exact) are on the old AWB and I can assume they will be on the new one when the gov gets around to passing a new one....he said he had 4 on the old list...he was actually a nice guy just doin a job that was made alot harder by dumb politicians.. Now if you call, I have heard the comment line is constantly busy , but the # above seems to work better......

Oh I also talked to a LEO friend of mine at the gun club, he said when they got the report, lol, very one in the department fit into the list in one way or another......

Oh and the in now a lawsuit against Janet Napolitano:

Thomas More Law Center - News

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has filed a federal lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. The lawsuit claims that her Department’s “Rightwing Extremism Policy,” as reflected in the recently publicized Intelligence Assessment, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” violates the civil liberties of combat veterans as well as American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of the political beliefs. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray. The Law Center claims that Napolitano’s Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.

Oh well as Leo said, "is anyone surprised?"

I'm sure I'm on all sorts of lists since I've been "cursed" with brains and common sense rather than blind emotions and heartfelt compassion to everyone regardless of what they do or don't do to deserve it.
