Fed Ex CC or PantherII

Experienced expeditors..could I please ask your opinions.

My husband and I an opportunity with an owner operator driving a tractor trailer / van; it is our choice to sign on with Fed Ex CC or PantherII.

1. We live in Texas and would like to choose a company that we would be able to get home fairly easily.
2. Little layover with more miles
3. Does either company offer benefits for the driver?

Thanks for your advice, suggestions and opinions.

Ms Kate: Neither company offers benefits,you are a so called independent contractor/driver and your health insurance and other employee type benefits are your responsibility.. Now a O/O may decide to pay for some type of package for his/her drivers but I think it's quite rare.

Which company is better,hard to say,they are both major players in the expediting industry and both will get you in and out of Texas.
Overall income is probably about the same so which ever one you feel the most comfortable with is the one to go with. Talk to recruiters from both companies,both of them want T/T units.

If you are grounded in Texas it is a trip to Detroit but would be well worth the adventure. Alot of information is available as well as talking to existing drivers from both companies. Recruiters from both companies will be on hand both days to answer questions for you as well.

As a native Houstonian getting in/out of Texas is an important issue to me. Neither company I've been with has been very good in that regard and I don't believe any other company would be any different. Go with whichever one you feel most comfortable with as far as overall package and just plan on having to deadhead more than you want to when you want to get in/out of Texas.

Leo,most of us know that Houston, and most of Texas(except possibly Dallas)is out of the Expedite shipping lanes for the most part.

It might be helpfull here if you would speak here about how succesful your efforts have been in getting home by finding your own loads and putting them through P2 athority.

I know when you started W/P2 they had this available to you and FECC did not.FECC has since added this advantage.

I am fortunate to be home baised in the Tri state area (I.E. IN-OH-MI)so our loads are criss crossing all the time. For those Who live far away from the Expedite shipping lanes,your insight would be most helpfull.

For what it is worth; we have had good success getting out of TX but they were almost always a long team load. Broker loads out of TX would certainly be helpful for a single as they likely would not have the same time constraints. That is using Panther's system. Not sure how Fedex will do with their brokering? Too early to tell.

To all who have replied..thank you so very much. I can see we have a lot to learn.

We are a team so hopefully the loads out of Texas will not be much of a problem. About brokering a load; am I understanding correctly that you can use PantherII authority to book your own load if needed off a load board..such as Member's Edge with OOIDA? .. or and ... if the owner of our truck has an authority can we use his authority on occasion to broker a load? I know with any company it can be hard to get home sometimes. Thanks again for all the input. Kayla

With Panther you can locate your own loads and then put them through the Panther system with an 85/15 split. That's not bad in my opinion since the insurance you are already paying for covers you and the load, you don't have to have your own authority, etc. I use getloaded.com when I need to get home and sometimes to get out of here. Getting out is easier than in. If you have specific questions please feel free to message me.

How do you like getloaded.com?
I am los angeles based and am not comfortable leasing out to one company and staying "OUT" for 3-6 weeks as I am really only looking to work a few days a week doing in CA runs in a CLass C.
I also saw truckstop.net and uship.com.
Any input in this much appreciated.
I have a used computer business and am getting out while Ic an.

You would do better to find your own account(s) within CA. It will likely pay better. Running with your own authority a few days a week is not practical. You will likely go broke.
Better to drive part time for a local or regional company.

For a straight truck with limited weight and length capacity no internet boards are terrific as the truck won't have the capacity for the majority of loads. Of the small percentage that are short enough and light enough most won't pay diddly. There are a few good ones but you have to look at an awful lot of loads to find them. You can access landstarbroker.com for no charge while you have to pay for most of the others. I only buy a month of getloaded when I need it rather than pay for it every month.
