Here's a little arithmetic to get things started. $2000/60% is $3334 so the truck will have to gross that much weekly. Are you looking for $104,000 annually as in $2k*52wks? That's $173,368 annual gross. Is this a FX WG team or std. freight team? Is it reefer or dry freight? How much time do you expect to spend at home? The required weekly gross will increase of course to offset that time if $104k annual is the requirement. I have no FX experience so I can't give you specifics on them. I just wanted to get the beginning math in as well as some questions I know will affect the final answer. Good luck.

Leo provides a great start. The next step would be to contact some fleet owners and ask them how their teams are doing. Then contact the teams and confirm the numbers. I know for a fact that a number of teams are doing as well or better as the the numbers Leo provides. Whether or not you will depends on many things. You need to find out dirctly from the teams exactly what they are doing to produce the kind of money you seek, and then figure out if you are ready, willing and able to do the same.

On most 60/40 splits, don't you have to pay for fuel? Are you considering that before taxes, then fuel taxes on top of that ...or are you just looking at the final take home being around 2k per week? A little more info is really needed for that info.

MDS desires $2000 before taxes, so we all presume that means Federal and State personal income taxes. easyrider2697 reminds us of the cost of fuel and fuel taxes coming off the top of gross. Some other items to think of before reaching your net income, before taxes, are operating expenses that may be the responsibility of the operator leased to the owner.

Your agreement with a truck owner may include your responsibility for some of the following; consider these in your negotiations with an owner:

Work Accident Insurance; Workers Compensation premiums; Liability Insurance Premiums; Accident Deductables for truck; Accident Deductable for other vehicles or property; Accident Deductables for installed equipment; Cargo Damage Deductables; Qualcomm, telephone, pager expenses; Escrow Fund; Tolls.

The short answer to your question is "NO", FECC has a income pamphlet that they give out to potential contractors. The numbers are from a year ago and they give you fleet averages for the different truck sizes. Thier numbers are accurate, and they look good until you subtract out all of your expenses.

The FedEx Custom Critical pamplet is an average income for two years. Personally I feel that we will never be just an average income earning truck. You have to know what your expenses are and from there you have to decide how hard you need to run and how long you need to stay out. That is a personal decision. Each person is different with different income needs. Some people are so upside down in their lives and bills they cant afford to survive out here with the ups and downs of the income in expediting.

Scotty, if'n you are using up most of your present 2K a week, i'd certainly stay where you are at. If you are using half of it, you have a chance.

I once put a team in a truck, they wanted to know if they could make
$100k per year, and that was just wages, meaning after fuel, they were with me several years,I even gave them the truck.
