Well as optimistic as I usually am, I reviewed my overall stats last night with other FedEx CC solo van contractor and all of us are doing the same – d**m poor and can’t see many of us continuing unless something changes this week like a nice long 300 or 400 mile run.
Our average between runs is 36 hours – mine is the second highest at 62 hours (which I am at right now as I write) and the highest is 78 hours. Example I was third in the express center, now I am second and 5 runs went out. I don’t believe I was NOT close to any of them so not to even get an offer. I am right in the middle (literally I mean in the middle) of most of the areas where freight would come out of. I am wondering if my poor performance has to do with my ‘discussion’ with my CC in April?
We (5 of us) are in service 98% for the quarter (beginning of April to end of June) with a near 100% load acceptance – my stats are 100% load acceptance with 77% being in service. One contractor has 100% acceptance and in service time since last December and he is doing about the same as I am.
Overall income is down, the average around $4500 for the quarter – mine is at $3300 and the lowest is $2900 with the highest at $6000. Actually I made more money in the month of December and also in January than I made since April 1st.
Our deadhead is up this quarter, average 43% - mine is 48% with the highest at 60%. Before anyone says anything, if I am within 100 miles of home or in Canada, I go home. It cost me $35 a day to stay out and being in Canada with fuel and food cost surpassing $50 a day, I can’t afford it. But I am not the only one to do this.
We all know of the solo van drivers who b*tch at the dispatchers, who demand less than 75s (yes we all think that the dispatchers give them what they want to shut them up) and they are running their a** off, I have seen two of these drivers stats right on the website – so there is no dispute about their stats. But I can’t get a thing out of some of these dispatchers, I had a run with 78 miles, flammable and toxic inhalant hazmat load to a refinery and I begged for a less than 75 but told it is not possible to give that to me, so my short run gave me a 36 hour wait for another load, which was also poor. The same with the last two Canadian runs, 81 miles and no less than 75s even though the dead head was more than the loaded miles. Too much inconsistencies with dispatching since some of these changes have been made.
So someone had the bright idea of talking with our CC about some of these problems – not. We all have the same CC now and we can’t get a thing done with her and a few of us are nervous to talk to her. 2 CC’s for 280 vans is an utter joke.
I disagree with Leo, I run across a team in every 4th or 5th FedEx CC van I talk to and a lot of times it is the same couple or team – so I would say this is actually a 1 in 15 ratio. Maybe I am wrong but I don’t see this a team company with vans being able to drive 700 plus miles opposed to c and d trucks being limited to 550 miles.
Oh well back to waiting and looking for a job.
