Favorite Truck Stop & Eating Place

As I am sitting in the truck stop trying to keep warm, I was looking through a book that I started keeping notes of places that I wanted to remember like truck stops, good eating places as well as cheap places to get good meals. I also was going to keep favorite places. As time went by I stop doing it but found in my briefcase. Just bored and though I get a tread started of Great places to visit around the country. Some are my favorites are as follows:

Restaurants:

(South Carolina)

Daddy Joes BBQ I-85 exit 92 Gaffney, SC(Great BBQ, Service and Atmosphere very affordable.

Also try Mike's Cafe in Gaffney Exit 95(SR 18) on I-85 Gaffney SC Cheap food good also.(Formily Dog House Cafe) Listed that way on GPS Of course we all know about the Big name Truck Stops so unless something is REALLY different we all know about them.

(North Dakota)
I do like a truck stop in Grand Forks, ND can't remember name but was snowed in out there last year or year before. I think there is only one maybe two exits with truck stops in grand forks will not be hard to find. Has nice Bar and Casino Clean cut staff extremly friendly. Gives everyone a shower regardless of how much fuel you buy. Great food also.

(Kansas)

Garden City Truck Stop is a decent place to hang out. Only Truckstop in area till you get to Dodge City where you have a couple and a Flying J coming soon. JESSICA works the diesel desk and is very nice to all drivers. Not flirty just helpful. I remember her from a year ago. I cant remember names from yesterday. Her service and the atmosphere when I was there (You wasn't treated like a truck driver) TV and Movie Rooms, clean showers, all kinds of extras.

I will keep posting but I would like to hear points of interest from other drivers

Thanks

Good Post, I'm always interested in hearing of good places to eat and things to see. I believe thats how the layover lounge forum got started. 2 of my favorite places to eat are O'Charleys and Cracker Barrel, Man I love their meatloaf. But the problem with Cracker Barrel is they don't allow T/T but you can get in with a S/T or bobtail. Another reason why I'm glad I'm out of a truck and in a van. Go anywhere eat anywhere.

Waffle House...Now that's fine dining. Pork Chops; Eggs and scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, diced and peppered. Mmmmmm.

TGI Fridays has a great pecan crusted chicken salad. Ruby Tuesday runs a close second with their grilled chicken salad.

And lest I forget, Rene's cooking is among the best.

Terry and Rene, have that right about pork chops and eggs from the waffle house, but my favorite was the Petro in Wilkes-Barre, PA. When the new owners took it on, they had a exceptionally clean truck stop, showers were great, but the food was out of this world.

Owners used to have a resturant in town, so there are quite a few locals that go for the evening meal.

Another great feed, is the Hungry Fisherman, in Athens, AL. Across from the new Wal-Mart. Calabash style sea-food.

I got a hardcover book full of blank, lined pages at the Dollar Store, in which I write down everything: truckstops, wifi, and whatever else I like in a specific place, plus all the truck numbers from EO people. It's a great help, and I sure wish it wasn't sitting on my desk at home right now x(
One place I remember liking is Pete's Greek Restaurant, in Dwight, Il, a little south of Chicago. It's within walking distance of 2 motels with truck parking, and the food is pretty good, if you like homemade - and I sure do!

Neely's BBQ-Memphis TN Mt Moriah Rd off I-240
Great pulled pork and ribs, come as you are dress, inexpensive prices, friendly parking for B, C, and D units

K & W Cafeteria-Charlotte NC Exit 62 off I-85
Good home gooking, I love the Chicken Pan Pie. Tod and I can eat for under $14. Parking??? might try the Wal Mart across the street.

Lamberts-Sikeston MO, Home of the Throwed Rolls
Good food, good entertainment and the kids who work there have to be the most well adjusted, well rounded, good citizens in the country.

The Gloucester House-Gloucester MA-Down on the waterfront, hard to get to but worth it! Best fried clams in the world.

Texas Seafood and Steak-Wharton TX Exit off 59 into Wharton go through town on the left just before you get on 60. Dumpy little place on the outside, scruby dutch on the inside. Don't count on steak, there are only two offerings. But, if you like shrimp, flounder, oysters, scallops, etc, it's good and cheap. Parking--signs say no truck parking but if you're eating there they don't mind taking your money. lol

Bon Appitet!

browns, at the congo road exit on 30 just west of littlerock, ar. great buffet including dailey fresh catfish. great sweet tater casserole and local favorite cheese potatoes. they have all kinds of good home cooked choices. another if you like seafood, froglegs, ribs{smoked}, chicken, turtle, crawdads and all that sorta quisene is the old mill restaraunt just west of memphis on 40 look for the billboard. if you get to peoria, il. just east on 74 is the morton truckstop. across the street is the morton family restaraunt. everything there is good and plentifull and at very reasonable prices. the brazil grill located at the am best in brazill, in. is a great place for b-fast. its off of 70 east of terre haute. i also would like to mentio the galaxy burger in ontario, ca they have really good food, mexican/american and serve breakfast/lunch/dinner. but most of all the best carne asado burrito you will ever eat. if your man or woman enough to eat it all but for 6.49 save it for a snack later. or do what i do and buy 3 or 4 and freeze them, take one out and put it in the fridge a day b-4 you want it then nuke it and they are good as if it was fresh. to get to this place just go south on milliken {thats the rd. between the ta's}about a mile or two till you get to rt. 60. go west on 60 one or two exits, to the archibald st. exit and go north or turn right at the bottom of the ramp. go to the first stoplight anb they are on the left across the street. turn left and then rgt. into the front or you will have to go a block a do a u-turn. another great thing is they have parking it is safe and the people are nice. they do have a sign that limits parking to 3 hrs. but us little trks., if you park to the side by the factory and dont take up the back row {thats where the regulars who wait for their dailey loads park so they can eat} can stay as long as you want. the owner told me this but then i am a regular every time we are there thats where i go but i am sure he would treat all the same. he apprec. the business. also a nice little spot through the bushes on the back row to walk the dog. ihop, walgreens, gas station. motels all close walking distance. well thats enough of a rant for now. this is a good post and i like to eat.:9 :9 :9 :9 :9 :9 :9 :9 :9 :9 :p :p

I-75 best Truck Stop on the Entire Route, Corinth KY exit 141. You can still get 2-eggs, hashbrowns, biscut, gravy, and a side of meat, coffee all for under $6. Waitress always professinal and they wear uniforms with a professional attitude (midnight and AM)

US 33 Jackson Ohio the Citgo or Conoco. Great food good service, not as good as Cornith.

Thre best truck stop in the Country, Jubitz in Portland OR. Showers are tiled flood to cieling, well lighted, clean. The bath towels they give you are soft, absorbant, and five feet long. You feel as if your a King in there. Full service restaurant, Prime Rib, down to BLTs all wonderfull, plus a fast food area in the fuel desk, a mini mall with barber, laundry facility that will Iron your shirts for a buck, shoe repair, chiropractor, shipping dept, well stocked store, movie theater with two different screens, a lounge with live music Thurs thru Sundays, and a Motel. Great Layover spot, I always love going to Portland. All the other chains could take a lesson from these guys on how to accomidate drivers, negative parking very tight due to the popularity.

We are not big fans of parking at truck stops. We do enjoy a good meal out but are very wary places we don't know much about.

Having said that I have to say our favorite stopping places are those that are relatively quiet, safe and hopefully have a reasonable view. The favorite eating place is inside the sleeper where we have the facilities to prepare meals much the same as at home and at home.

One of our favorite places that we can't get to very often is
"Cafe Fourteen"
300 S Hicks Rd,
Palatine, IL
(847) 705-6330

in the Chicago area theres a large parking lot nearby. Some of the best northern dining we stumbled upon. Its a dinner in the morning a a type of club setting in the evening, never got to stay to see.
