That's pretty funny, but in actuality most of the headlines about this inauguration are more like:

The AP: Obama hosting pricey party in a dicey economy
or
The New York Daily News: Obama's inauguration is most expensive ever at $160 million

In years past, the reported figure has been that of the Presidential Inauguration Committee (a bipartisan group, BTW), what they spent on the inauguration. For Clinton, that was $33 million. For Bush, $42 million. This year, for some reason, all of the costs are included, including security costs, the parades, parties, streamers and port-a-potties.

In the headlines, if there's a number that is higher than about $45 million, which is the Presidential Inauguration Committee's budget, then it's a made up number, made up by someone in the press. Over the last several days I've seen the number creep up quickly from $110 to the latest, $175 million.

Incidentally, not made up is the cost of the platform on the Capitol steps, including the cost to rent the chairs. This comes from the Department of the Architect of the Capitol. The cost? $3.5 million.

Holy crap on a cracker. They must have ordered that from the same place the Army gets it's $9,000 hammers.

If Osama Obama was REALLY what he claimed to be, a "Man of the People" he would have cancelled everything, just had a TV camera in the Oval Office, took his oath and donated alllll of that totally wasted money to homeless shelters across the nation. It might have done so good then. As it was it was an envionronmental mess. All that polution from cars and busses, trash everywhere. Oxygen producing grasses trampeled to death. Don't forget the 600 private jets that flew in for the event. I wonder what kind of carbon footprint that left?
