The long story is too long to tell. The short story is the escort at a large shipper facility was leading the way in a car. We were to follow him several miles to the pick up. By running stop signs and breaking speed limits, he outran us, leaving us lost with no way to communicate with him. We went to a security guard station to explain our dilemma. When we were at the shack, the escort turned up in the line of cars about six cars back.

He was livid and totally lost it. Leaning out his driver's side window to the point that he was almost sitting on the edge, he screamed a string of choice words at me while the officer and I both looked back confused.

I did not care much for what the guy screamed but the officer provided some of the best coaching I had ever received in the heat of the moment. He motioned gently with his hand, like you would motion a car to slow down on the road, and said, "I'll handle this. Just pretend like it did not happen. Pretend you did not hear that. Park over there and let me handle it."

It worked like a charm. When I felt like responding to the jerk escort, I remembered to pretend that it did not happen and the urge to respond went away. That cycle repeated two or three times, but in a few minutes, all was good.

Pretend like it did not happen. Forget it and drive on.

Good stuff.
