Expediting in Georgia

My wife and I were thinking about going trucking in the big rigs. We went up to Louisville from Macon to talk to a few companies and people to see what would be the best way to break in.

While there we came upon the expeditor booths and I took an interest. I had a school bus license in Wisconsin for 30 years, 12 of those in Milwaukee. She was my sub for 9 of those years. This might be a natural for us.

Last night I read the post going back the last year in the newbies.
Sounded like a lots of good information.
Questions:

Are there lanes out of or around Atlanta? I live 1 hr south in Macon.
Would be willing to do the long runs any direction.

If we teamed for some one else, being careful w/ expenses, what could we expect to make. We are used to long hours and weeks. We are 63 & 62 yrs old and figure putting in 3 to 5 years.

Would certainly appreciate any information.

Thanks, Wes

Atlanta, is a great city for expedited freight both in-bound and out-bound. You may have to deadhead from Macon to Atlanta to get a load though.

Flexibilty is good. You most likely will be running North from Atlanta.

If you mean run for a fleet operator, you can earn anywhere from $500 - $1500 per week.

Best wishes!

Lawrence,

Thanks for the reply.

Our combined income now is about $900/week, but we are sure that is going to change down in a few months.

Is there more money to be made owning your own truck. Reading the forum indicates we should try it out a year to see if we like it.

Is group med insurance possible?

We will keep looking at everything we can and beginning to study for the tests. We are probably a 2-3 months away from making a decision.

Again, Thanks, Wes

Hey Wes, I too go here alot and read the form for idears. I live in Augusta, Ga and have been thinking of getting into expedting myself. I don't see many expeditors my way but some time's I do see them hanging out at the truck stop. I getting ready to start my CDL school to get my Class A and hopeful then start searching like yourself. If you come across some good info please pass it on to me and I will do the same. I travel for the state and have seen several Conway expeditors trucks and a couple of Fedex trucks siting at a storage facility in Conyers Ga so figure there must be a good business around Atlanta, but am like yourself would like to start out of Augusta Ga area.
