Thanking my lucky stars I don't have a load headed south! I remember what the Wal-Mart parking lot was like in Louisiana after Katrina, 2006. It was a MESS. Broken beer bottles & garbage everywhere, sketchy types living out of their cars. Shelves were largely bare inside, with merchandise strewn all over the floor. And this was in northern Louisiana along I-55. Some trees down, but damage overall was not too bad -- power was still on.
Assuming you could even get through to your destination (Gulfstream in Savannah? Forget it.), you'd probably have to get out of dodge right away and try to get further north. Where would you hole up for the night? Truck stops will be packed, and WMs will be party central. All motels fully booked. Plus, hard to sleep when 40+ mph winds are buffeting the vehicle.
