Well, Two places that I would like to add for good and quick repair work at a fair price are Cummins of Mi. in Saginaw and Tri-City suspension also in saginaw. both off of I-75 exit 151
Tri-City suspension go east of I-75 1/4 mile on the left.
Cummins go west to first light past freeway to outer dr. turn left or south about 1 mile on the left.

Ok, good replies so far.

Also, think in terms of categories...

Need some input on categories.

Catagories...

1.Truck manufacturers Authorized Service (needed for warranty issues)
sub catagories Freightlier
Kenworth
Mack
GMC
Peterbilt
Volvo
etc
sub catagories - 48 contiguous state listings

sub catagory - Individual locations

2. Truck service centers (repairs on all brands)

sub catagory - 48 contiguous state listings

sub catagory - Individual locations

3. Tire repair
catagories by state
on site repair
road service

4. Wrecker service
catagories by state

Lawrence - lets not get too enthusiastic and start including rest stops and dining facilities... maybe at a later time...
but the issue facing every owner of every truck is "where can I find reputable service for my truck in "hole in the wall" "any state"???? and what wrecker service is not going to recoginize that we are underload, expediters and then double his normal rate (had this happen in Illinois!)
Choke and Pukes as well as rest stops and other amenities could be another project down the road.

Here are some other thoughts road side FAST help/service. DOT inspections. Tires. Engine. Box repairs. One I would really love help with is sleeper issues. Is there anyone other than Alumi Bunk that can work on those things? The folks up there in Detroit are great but sometimes you just can't get there. Is anyone of the EO folks going to collect this info and work it? If you are I will send my list to you and if not I am going to begin compiling this. Let me know and I will stay out of your way or run with it. I just have alot of energy for this because I have had two very expensive lessons in the last six months. Again I want to say to Tom, Great idea.raceman

Tom,

With our software - you can add a new listing at any time. So our listings can grown and expand as each driver and owner operator visits new businesses.

I would limit it initially to repair facilities by state. Maybe indicating whether it is a dealer or independent garage.
It should also be mentioned what type of truck the customer has as well. If for example, you have a Mack and you are getting repairs at KW, it might take longer to get parts ect. Just a thought. In addition, you could rate a truck purchase experience through this same idea. How does a dealer ect. follow up after the sale? There are some very positive responses, and some experiences that are less than desireable.

I don't want a listing of every facility. I want only those the user has personal experience with and gives details about. I can look in my manual or go to the company website to get the entire directory. That doesn't help me any with quality of work though. I think this is a great idea however I think it should only be "rated" facilities which have a minimum amount of feedback from us.

Some sort of feedback "form" is needed to at least get name, location, date, time, vehicle, work performed, rating of service, personnel, cleanliness, promptness, attitudes and I'm sure a few more. Finally, a rating system of maybe 1 to 5 stars that is given by the user who posts the review. Without that much info it isn't as helpful to us as it could and should be.

I might like to see it expanded to include any shops who choose to pay to be included in the list. I would think if they are willing to pay to be included in a critique site they understand they are going to be closely scrutinized and reviewed for all the world to see/read. If they pay to get in they shouldn't have any stars until someone uses them and rates them. Any other shop would have stars as soon as it goes on because a user has reviewed and rated them. That way we'd know immediately if the shop we are considering is user rated or paid presence.

Just thoughts that came to me and I hope it makes it in some form because it sounds like a good idea.

> Excuse my ramblings but like I said my mind goes with great

Never stop thinking. Few good ideas began with widespread popular support. The usual response to a new idea is a negative response from the "you can't fight city hall" "we've been doing it this way for years" and "that's just the way it is" crowd. Keep those mind spurts coming.

Reading your post, it seems what you are looking for is assurance of some sort that can be acquired ahead of a truck repair, and recourse of some sort if the repair is unsatisfactory for whatever reason.

A service provider rating system has its merits. I believe you may find one already in existence at www.fleetnetamerica.com. It's not a rating service per se. It's an emergency road service referral company with a nationwide network of over 60,000 service providers. Part of the company's pitch is the vendor screening it does.

Vendors like the service because it's a source of new business for them. Owner/Operators and fleet owners like it because FleetNet America provides referrals to reputable providers. AND, if unsatisfactory treatment is provided, it's not just you, the lonley one-truck operator complaining. It's you, a FleetNet America referral. Complaints from a referral carry more weight because FleetNet has the ability to cut the errant service provider out of the referral loop.

What I like best about this service is there is NO FEE whatsoever until you use it. You do not need to pre-register. Just call when you are in need of a service referral.

This company has an interesting and reputable history. I carry their number in our truck. They'll be the first folks I call if I need unscheduled or emergency repairs away from home. The same service could be used to find FleetNet America-approved service providers near home too.

This is great information.Wish I had been with them last winter.I let the local Sheriff call a wrecker for us.We were stuck in snow that collapsed into a hidden hole. This Bandit charged $1700.00 to pull us out.It would be intresting to find out what Fleet Net could have done for us.

Fleetnet is somewhat simular to KW-assist. Kenworth will use it's dealer network first then it goes to other repair facilities if dealer is closed ect. They handling towing as well.

RE: Expediter Rated Truck Service for Freightliner

I remember bringing this idea up several years ago. However one vist that does not go well in the truck owner's eyes should not necessary bring a black mark on the dealer.Dealers and repair shops have their own problems such as a inability to hire and keep decent mechanics.
I look at service shops in 2 different ways. The small local shop that does service and repairs only needs to keep a good reputation in their area in order to keep the locals coming back.
However the large truck dealerships also need to provide good service or you will purchase another brand. One time my local Freightliner service manager told me"The salesman will sell you your first truck,I will sell you the next one".Very true
I can't speak for Pacar on Int'L but the few times I have called the Freightliner hot line,I received fast response and help.
Another way you can help yourself is to build up a good relationship with your local service manager. I had an alternator go out once in Grand Rapids MI and I was 2 weeks out of warranty. When I came home and told my local guy he said "You should have called me first. Many of us go to the same in-house seminars and know each other,If you are not comfortable with the work you are getting on the road let me know and I will intervene on your behalf". Well thats the kinda of talk you like to hear. He was able to get me reimbursed for the alternator.
So every year about Dec 20th I send $50.00 worth of pizzas to them at noon and belive me I get that $50.oo back in no time.

Rich Great Idea, build a strong relationship with your local repair shop as they may be able to save you when your away. I will be following your advice cheap insurance and you are considered a great guy in the mean time win/win.
I did not buy my new truck in town, I let the KW service manager in Chlt know that the reason I choose a KW was due to his Evenining shop supervisor who took the time to walk out to a new T-300 and go over it with me before I made my final decision. They took that as a very nice compliment and I am serious the other dealers could of cared less who or what I was. After reseraching Chlt KW further with other KW owners (FECC Freight) they are very loyal and feel that the price structure is in line with anyone else.
Felt for my first Expeditor Truck needed to deal with a dealer that knows how to put one together, I did not expect so many details had to go into putting one of these together.
