Never stop thinking. Few good ideas began with widespread popular support. The usual response to a new idea is a negative response from the "you can't fight city hall" "we've been doing it this way for years" and "that's just the way it is" crowd. Keep those mind spurts coming.
Reading your post, it seems what you are looking for is assurance of some sort that can be acquired ahead of a truck repair, and recourse of some sort if the repair is unsatisfactory for whatever reason.
A service provider rating system has its merits. I believe you may find one already in existence at
www.fleetnetamerica.com. It's not a rating service per se. It's an emergency road service referral company with a nationwide network of over 60,000 service providers. Part of the company's pitch is the vendor screening it does.
Vendors like the service because it's a source of new business for them. Owner/Operators and fleet owners like it because FleetNet America provides referrals to reputable providers. AND, if unsatisfactory treatment is provided, it's not just you, the lonley one-truck operator complaining. It's you, a FleetNet America referral. Complaints from a referral carry more weight because FleetNet has the ability to cut the errant service provider out of the referral loop.
What I like best about this service is there is NO FEE whatsoever until you use it. You do not need to pre-register. Just call when you are in need of a service referral.
This company has an interesting and reputable history. I carry their number in our truck. They'll be the first folks I call if I need unscheduled or emergency repairs away from home. The same service could be used to find FleetNet America-approved service providers near home too.
