Expedite slow down?

My fiance and I both have class b cdl's. I recieved mine after he did. He was working for panther, and then we both went over to express-1. I know that as a team at express-1, we were running pretty good as a team.

In June we managed to gross 12,606.00 for the truck in a matter of a week and a half.

We are a great team, and had great statistics.

I was just wondering how much expediting has slowed down for a good team, that likes to run....

I'm not a driver that wants to go home every other day, or deadhead everywhere.

I think a lot of your question depends on the company. The more diverse freight base, the better off you will be. The ability to obtain your own freight is another plus. Folks doing strictly automotive are in a real slow down compared to six months ago.

I know that when we were with panther (I was only a ride a long at that point), they did a lot of automotive loads, and that is what scares me.

But, I also have made friends with many brokers, because panther allows back hauls.

I would say last year they did there fair share. Just looking at our trucks, I think we did a couple over the last month and that has been it. Might be some others with the cat that say what the bulk of their loads have been over the last 30 days or so?

Okay, well, since we are both panther approved, and that is who we plan on going back to after Thanksgiving, that is where I would like to focus my thoughts at for right now. Drivers from other companies can chirp in as well, as anything would help my brain right now...

We left express-1 in August/September area.. I know that with Express-1 we were hauling a lot of car parts as well.. But, there were a lot of other items scattered in there too.

So, like dave said, if any cats out there want to input what the bulk of their hauling experience has been lately, I would appreciate it..

Out of our last 10 loads, 7 have been Elite loads. 1 requiring lift gate, 2 T Val loads 2 Gov loads, 2 Pharmaceutical loads

I'm just kinda wondering what you did for the other two and a half weeks of the month? Seems you were "lucky" for that week n a half, then what happened?

It was a new month. My fiance already had his cdl, I only had my permit. So I came home for the first part of the month. I went to a local truck driving school, ran by the state police here. I went there every day, I did what I had to do, got my cdl, and went to work.

In the week and a half that we had left, we grossed the truck 12606. Then the new month began, and did it all over again.

That is how we rolled though. We built relationships with the dispatchers. They liked us, they knew that we were reliable, and we got the loads, and got them done..

So.. that was how it worked..

Just concerned as to how the economy is effecting the entire thing now, before I go and take the plunge again...

Col....I've seen your posts for years professing to smaller more flexible carriers,....I now know what you be saying...these big carriers are so full of themselves it stinks....after 8 years Iam getting to the point I am tired of these big carriers and thier crap...all the same crap wrapped in a different package...They try and sell you your an independent business operator...bull.....only on thier terms....

I don't really have the means to look right now, that is why I am depending on every one else's input. I have a gift for negotiationg with brokers, and stuff. I don't give up, and they usually call back. That is what I like about panther, that other companies moan about.. Backhauls.

I don't like being in places that have 1 load or 2 loads a day. So, if I am blessed to even get a load out of there, I do cartwheels.

I know what it was like when we left. But, I have no clue what has been effected by the high rise of fuel prices, the economy, etc.

It is just scary watching the entire world fall around me, and wondering what to expect when I get there.. But, I will see. Regardless, I am going back to it.

So, why not pay 400 a month in cargo insurance to go out on your own, instead of spending it on QC and personal insurance payments. Let me show you the dark side!

There has been a slow down with carrier I drive for. They are(carrier) not tied too heavily to the US 3 but it is still auto related type freight-heavy equipment/construction etc. My fleet owner is easy to work for and I run hard so we both can make the benjimens,but it has slowed to a crawl and the waiting drives me to pacing and wondering.
