Expectations?

So I run into this couple in a sprinter last month...I've run into them before, they've been doing this for about 4-5 years at least....don't know if they've been just lucky up to now or not.
On their 3rd carrier now...He says no one can keep them rolling consistently...They think waiting 12-14 hours is unacceptable, even in Cali.......They seem to be nice people BUT how does one tell them to take their head outta their butts? OR is it me?

How should one tell them? I say matter-of-factly. IMO, there's no *****-footing around money. They WILL fail if they keep doing what they're doing.

I tried in a nice way..but I could see them getting all defensive because what I was trying to say wasn't what they wanted to hear...I got told MY expectations were too low...go figure

I don't give "advice" or "tips" unless asked to. Far too many in this business (all others too) only want to hear what they agree with. Not being willing to sit more than 12-14 hours in this business is just silly. It just does not work that way. It would be nice if it did, but, reality is what it is.

Where they ever came up with this 12-14 hr logic is beyond me..and they read here but don't post....they've squandered the good years of the truck moving around around...

They are who they are. Some people are just like that. You tried. You can do no more. No use beating your head on the wall over it. There is NO logic in that 12-14 hour limit. It shows a basic lack of understanding about this business.

I'm wondering if they are the couple I ran into a few months ago, they didn't like what I said which came down to get a real job and get out of this business.

It took me a few years, a few failures, to learn one simple fact - I DON'T KNOW AS MUCH AS I THINK!

Thus, I shut up, watched, learned and listened.

Now, I STILL DON'T KNOW AS MUCH AS I THINK, but I have learned and know alot more than I did by listening and yes sometimes hearing things I really didn't want to hear.

Now, I make money, I run fairly steady when I want to, I am learning some of those 'dead' areas to avoid, I am learning when to move and when to sit in between loads, etc etc all the stuff you need to know to make some money in this business.

But, the key thing I have learned is that you can always learn something new EVEN from someone new and that YOU NEVER EVER EVER KNOW AS MUCH AS YOU THINK.

People create their own reality whether it has anything to do with how things actually work or not.

Some on this site don't believe in luck. I do believe in luck. I just don't believe somebody can get by on luck alone for 4 or 5 years. (With the exception of my friend Schnītz who was born with a horseshoe up his :censoredsign: and has been milking it for the past 55 years.) This couple must be doing something right.

He started as a solo for the first few years, and they had a second income...so they started out with cash..but things are finally catching up to them...

I run a bit different in that I start DH back immediately to my place.
The difference is I've brought the load down from Canada and with my company we can only deliver back across the border and not intra (sp?) state.
Half the time they'll find a skid that's on route for me to grab, but our loads pay well enough going down (luckily), that backhauls and waiting aren't a concern.
But yeah, for a regular expediter their model won't work.

WOW! They wait 12-14 hours? Not me, I give'em until I wake up, nothing, I'm gone. lol

Sometimes we have to wait, sometimes not. I guess the whinninmg to dispatch pays off for them, since they have been doing it for this long. Jumping carriers IMO, is not a slove all to thier problems. Some think they have to do it, some (me), hang in there. I can't understand why they haven't found out yet where to move to in order to get a load. I'll spend 50 bucks to make 600.......I will also wait up to 36 hours if I know my history is good where I'm sitting.

I could care less how they do it anymore. weren't shooting at you, jes the fella that would wait 36 before "causing" something to happen. I guess I "learned" to coin a phrase from Phill. That, once the how'ahya's is over, in the parking lot, an the discussion goes down hill from there, it's time to leave an let em drown in their own bs. Too many has swung my door for me to get remotely concerned bout their delima.
