EGR units on Trucks

Just to let everyone know that if your EGR unit goes bad have the shop change the oil and clean out your trucks oil system. If your trucks EGR unit leaks it can put coolant in your oil. How that comes to happen is once the truck is turned off the coolant can leak back into the oil. Once that happens your oil filter will be all messed up and will not let oil flow. Then your motor is junk. It cost us $14440.00 to get a new crate motor and to have them put it in our 2005 M2. My brother in law got us a deal on the motor. It took over 9 months to settle with the dealer that put the EGR unit in the truck. Freightliner of Knoxville wanted $21,000.00 to put a new motor in a truck that wasn't even two years old at the time.

Just a little FYI, everytime you get your oil changed have them check your oil to see how it breaks down. If you do that then you will not run into the things we did. Our Truck sat for almost two months before I had it towed to Akron to have a new motor put in at R and R engine. Three months of downtime on this truck cost us over $50,000.00. So now we have the oil checked everytime at Speedco. Paying $7.50 to do that is a lot cheaper than $14440.00 for a motor.

Yikes.....

What engine was in your truck? Was it a faulty repair or was it an original component that failed?

Your right about oil analysis. Even the cheapest sample done at the lousiest lab will tell you if you have coolant in the oil before it gets to the ugly stage.

Glad to hear you got it worked out but loosing all that time stinks!
