E85

What is the difference between a vehicle designed for E85 and a non-E85 vehicle? My 2008 Ford 406 liter E250 has the gas cap that says to not use E85, but also in the owners manual it lead one to believe that some were made to use it. I have found E85 conversion kits on the internet, and from what it says, you hook up the conversion box between the plugs that goes onto the fuel injectors and the fuel injectors, and hook up a ground wire. There is nothing changed in the engine. If this is the case, what would happen if E85 was used without the conversion kit?

There are a number of things that are different but you will have to ask ford. One thing about these boxes is they don't really work. Most of the E85 issues have to do with the materials of the fuel system, the increase in fuel delivery (due to the loss of energy in E85) and the timing of the ignition but nothing else.

fuel tanks, hoses, injectors are different E85 eats up the rubber used in regular cars

Yeap what both Dakota and greg said....the conversions don't work and the lines and tank and injectors and most all of the fuel system is different because of the alcohol content in e85
