I have questions about EOBRs. Trying to decide if its worth the hassle to equip the truck So far I have not heard many good things from drivers and its only a matter of time before Big Brother mandates and we will have to install them it if we want to opperate.

1) When dose the law go into effect?
2) As a one man one CMV independant opperation if I opted to run an EOBR now
can I use one and not have to be sadled with a gadget plan for five years?
Ofcorse it would have to be DOT compliant.
3) How much dose it cost to buy, install, and maintain them?
4) Dose it increase the value of my truck?
5) Dose it make it easier to run legal?
6) Dose it help for accuratecy?
7) Do they make the creeper cop shake down process easier?
8) Are they realy worth buying?

No, I realy dont look foward to being sadled with a gadget that invades my privacy
but I want to make an informed decision.

Thanks.
Bob Wolf.

We like ours, alot easier to keep track of your hours, and most DOT cops don't even want to check them when they find out you are running electronic logs. (We haven't had a logbook check since we have had the EOBR)

We have found that most cops don't check it. We have also found it to often be inaccurate. Sometimes as much at 10 minutes off on drive times. All in all, it is NOT worth the extra money.

We could keep the logs on the computer and have it be just as easy, at a FAR lower cost.

Im not a gadget friendly person but Ive been told you can accurately track detention time.
So far all the ones I find online require the monitoring plans at an average starting cost of 40 bucks a month for five years. Im not sure abbout that, considering most of us dont even know if we will still be running next week.
B.T.W. Our friends at F.M.C.S.A. say they cant monitor us. Not so they can and will get the data from the companies we pay for.

The logs on your computer how dose that work?

There are commercial soft ware packages that do that. We have never used them.

I THOUGH I heard there were apps for smart phones, but I don't know that for sure.

:pYeah if the mandate goes through I might just put a crapper in the box so I can register it as an RV and then the H.O.S. is no longer an issue. L.O.L.

you are confusing two different things, although very similar. electronic logs are not eobr's.

electronic logs go straight to the carrier and no other outside entity and can be manipulated by the carrier if they so choose to. eobr's do the same but are also sent to the outside entity that you are paying a fee to. this is just a very general description of the two.

i wouldnt get in any hurry to put a true eobr on my vehicle. i think there are some battles left before they will be a mandate and even then it will be some time before implementation.
