Ok,

How does everybody keep thier padlocks from rusting/freezing etc? I tried a rubber coated one but it would not fit the holes in my door latches. I have tried oils and graphite but nothing seems to help. I bought a new lock and it is now woking very good and it is only a month old. Any help for me? Thanks, Layoutshooter

WD-40 until the lock starts acting up. Then buy a new one. We replace a lock about once a year and, just in case, keep bolt cutters in a handy place.

My suggestion is to buy two locks keyed alike. While lock #1 is working, lock #2 is being restored by first imersing in very hot water.(desolves salt & road chemicles) Then WD40 is applied, wrap in oily rag,put in ziploc bag until lock #1 starts getting bawlky.#2 then goes into service.Repeat process whenever necessary.

I have had the same two locks for four years now. Before that,a new lock every few months.

use it on firearms, as an aside. WD40 attracts dust and becomes gummy over time. Locks respond best to graphite. I've found the brass Master locks perform quite well and have never had a problem with one so far.

Sounds like good advice- may have to try that eventually. I bought one of those Supposedly great locks (Finnish origin) from a carrier and it didn't make it through 2 winters. Key goes in but won't turn the lock. $25 mistake! thrown into the trash bin...:-(

Very interesting ideas. I am not a big fan of WD40 for some things either. Where do you find the Yale waterproof locks at? I like the two lock one as well. Layoutshooter

you cant open my locks with the bullet from a rifle, but bolt cutters work fine
i find locks with the brass inners last the longest, even the weather sealed locks have a problem
never use wd40 as a lubricant, its only for loosening up rust,as was stated before, graphite is best for you lock
I have 3 locks, all keyed the same, when one won't open,i open it with the bolt cutters, replace it with the 3rd lock.
by the way, your uncle sam will help pay for the locks.

MERRY CHRISTMAS HAPPY NEW YEAR

hope santa is buying locks to give out to all the nice expediters
