We had a wonderful time at this years Ducks Unlimited Michigan State convention. It was fun visiting with people we only get to see once a year or catching up with long time friends.

The conservation news is good, DU keeps on doing amazing work across North America and they are investing heavily in Michigan with much of that work being done right here in Monroe county. SE Michigan GAINED wetlands acreage since last year which is a MAJOR plus for wildlife and Man.

Our chapter did some SERIOUS work last year. We took four major awards, from Ducks Unlimited National. The Monroe chapter raised in excess of 161,000 dollars last year and we are ranked 33rd in fund raising out of ALL North American chapters.

It is a great honor to be involved with such a good chapter and we look forward to the day we can do more.

Ummm maybe if you got up in the morning instead of noon thirty you would get more done..:D

All joking aside it is great to be involed in this chapter. As you know I got hung out to dry in Tn and didnt make the meeting..Next year will be different.
Have a few items for this years banquet stored in the garage all ready.
Monroe really deserves these awards..Alot of hard work goes into this..As I said before there is so much that I dont even see..

The oldest Grand daugther wants to get involed in the banquet this year..Going to have to find her something to do. Even if its just sitting at the Greewings table for a hour or so. Not sure how long her intrest can hold up when assinged a job..LOL

You are correct, there is a TON of work that goes on, year around, that makes it possible to accomplish what we do.

It takes people doing what ever they can, be it 5 hours or 5 months a year, we need them all.

We will work on finding something for your granddaughter to do. It is important that we do. We need youth. One of the seminars we attended at the convention spent a lot of time talking about working with younger people and finding ways to get them involved.

Again, thank you so much for your help and I sure hope you can make next years dinner and convention.

younger people and finding ways to get them involved.

You meant to say...Carry the decoy bags..LOL

Everytime one of her Greenwings Magazines shows up she calls to tell me got it and whats in it..Then she ask if she will be able to work with us at the dinner..She doesnt know what she maybe getting into yet..
I would think there could be something for her to do and as she meets other kids it would be easier on her.

We are working hard on getting more kids involved. There were several kids at the state convention. I don't recall hardly any last year. We had a pizza party for them one evening with prizes etc.

Bill Nichilo's daughter spent the entire weekend and she too is getting more involved with DU. I think she is 13.

WE don't use decoy bags. We needs kids to handle the boats. You should see just how excited they get when we "allow" them to do something as little as pull the anchors up.

We take a LOT of kids out hunting with us all the time.
