Has anyone had any experience with DTH out of Atlanta? They say they have a "home weekly" program that interests me. Also, they are based out of the southeast, where I live. Any assistance is appreciated.

I don't know specifics about the company however I've never heard any of the really successful people talk about home weekly. That can add a huge amount of d/h miles to your average.

Thanks Leo, I know that the southeast isn't a real hotspot for this industry. Just trying to do some research before I jump in. I'm looking at other options as well. I'm just returning from Afghanistan after 1 1/2 half years, so I really don't want to be gone for long stretches. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd like to hear them.

Hiya,

For starters I appreciate your service. Well done & glad you're home safe. If ya wanna do this job on a local basis, I feel like a broken record here but I'd look into EGL or UPS. They deliver mostly local & ya can be home everynite pretty much. If ya ever decide ya wanna take a long trip they have that option for ya too. So something to look into as a starting point.

There's a 3rd company I may start recommending but I don't know anything about em yet. I'm looking into another company because my van will have to be replaced by Febuary to stay w/ EGL. When I get more info on em I'll probably throw their name into the mix also.

As a rule though, for anyone who lives in a major city w/ a major airport, there's going to be local airfreight companies that will allow you to deliver local & be home everynight.

I'd add one other thing here. No matter what company ya decide to go w/, do not get a new vehicle to start out. Get a 2003-2004 model year van & work for the company for awhile. If ya then feel a new vehicle is justified, purchase it later on. If ya buy a new vehicle, you're going to find it's depreciated up to 10 grand in 6 months or so. So start out in a used vehicle or even work as a driver for an owner & make sure this is what ya want to do & that ya feel you can make a profit in it.

Good luck to ya & take care,
Danny

Danny, thanks for the tip. I already have an inquiry into UPS and will follow up with EGL when I actually land Stateside. I know they have a branch in my neck of the swamp.

DTH is a very fine and growing company. Their ATL office is the flagship of their company. The owners are as good of people as you would want to work with.

Having said that, I'm not sure how much freight they have but I would trust them to be honest with me and tell me what kind of network they have to get you back into their primary service area.

Eagle also has a very large office near the ATL airport on Old Dixie Road. They do both local airfreight and expedited runs (Hotshots). Most of their hotshots you will come home empty but if your making enough outbound, it doesn't matter if your deadhead is hign.

To Geo, thanks for the tip about Baghdad, but I'm in Afghanistan, not Iraq, and only for about 8 more days!!
To Targuard, thanks for the tip about DTH, are you leased with them? Being able to trust the people you work with is every bit as important to me as the financial end of the relationship. I filled out the interest inquiry on the site. So far, no response, if they don't get back to me by the time I get home, I'll give them a call.

Hey DannyD, back on Sept 10, you responded to an info request I made. You recommended EGL and UPS to me as possibilities, but you also made reference to a 3rd company, but didn't name them. Any chance you might let me know who it was you were talking about? Thanks.

Sure,

I have no personal dealings w/ em firsthand. So I wanna say that upfront. They were brought to my attention by another person on this board who might eye this thread & get w/ ya on his own.

The company is called Freightforce. They're similar to EGL & at least in the Detroit area, they have better rates. I'm not sure how much freight they have or a whole lot about em. I contacted em & they said they could use me occasionally, though they didn't have enough freight to sign me on. That's in Detroit though, down there might be diff. Ya can find em at Freightforce.com.

Good luck to ya & welcome back,
Danny
