Drivers health - how regulators gets their facts

Here we go again .
you can expect this to effect your ability to stay in business ,as regulators will relay on such an academic institute .

"Truck driver health is an issue that affects the safety of the entire transportation system, the Institute noted in its announcement."

naturally, the so called educated researchers at the Virginia Tech have even one shredded evidence to support such a claim, which is the base for the whole deal .

many Beached whales truckers are some of the most experienced safe drivers on earth. taking them off the roads and into the unemployment line will not serve safety .

Never mind - I think I know where their heads are.

I'm with Greg on this one: they keep saying sleep apnea can cause one to fall asleep suddenly and/or unexpectedly [while driving], but I've yet to see any proof of it.

I actually did have one friend who constantly fell asleep while driving. I am not sure what it was and it was only when he was driving that he had the issues, but he was never a professional driver and only drove about a half a mile or so the one time I was riding with him. As for the government regulations, you need to pay attention to them. They really do know what they are talking about. According to them, Sylvester Stallone was (and is) chronically obese ... as is Brock Lesner, Goldberg, the Rock, Bautista and many other such fat, lazy pigs.

It was the Virginia Tech study of accidents that the FMCSA and the doctor advisory group used the sleep apnea guidelines we have to deal with. The study is flawed in many ways, the first being the fact that the study didn't interview people but used incomplete and inconsistent data from accident reports for their conclusion which by the way wasn't the same conclusion that the advisory panel quoted when referencing the study. In a nutshell the conclusion said there is no conclusive proof that fatigue through sleep apnea was found. More so in the executive summary, the study pointed out that the sleep apnea information only came from a range of accidents that did not include class 6 or great vehicles.

On top of that. the US DOT has granted Virginia Tech a lot of money, through which they have asked for studied to be done while at the same time some of the advisory doctors hail from VT.

If we could really come face to face with the people that comes up with this mess they would be like a baby elephant (FAT) themselves. they are not all that physically fit themselves. so look at the bunch of ......... making all these rules and regulations .INCLUDING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT WE HAVE HAD THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS.I would bet that all of us would have more common sense than they have.

Ill bet there are plenty BIG people who are perfectly healthy, and this BMI size is just a way to pigeonhole a certain segment of drivers they ASSUME are dangers to the road which is Hogwash.
Narcolepsy is the Issue where you fall asleep with no warning, that could be very dangerous but I think ANY commercial driver who had that issue would just get out of the truck and stop driving. As I said before Im healthy as can be, I dont drink, I dont Smoke, I dont take Pills of any sort even Aleve unless Its absolutely neccessary. Im safety consciuos, and have the awards to show for it, Yet lets just look up on Capital hill at the waistlines and Neck sizes and demand they submit to the same tests...theyve certainly got the best Insurance to pay for it, PAID FOR BY US.....Im pretty darbn tired of the Numbuts on Capital Hill passing legislation thats BOUGHT And paid for by the highest PAC !!!!
