Driver pay

I am a new driver working for an owner for a percentage. (60/40)

I didn't realize that the owner would be taking a his percentage of everything except the fuel surcharge. Such as dead head pay, detention pay, border pay, etc.

I am interested in finding out if this is the norm in the expedite industry?

Driving a staight truck for one of the larger expedite companies..

Thanks for your feed back

It depends on what you agreed to, which should be in your contract. I don't think it is unreasonable that the owner get a percentage of deadhead and detention.
On deadhead, the owner is still incurring a cost regardless of the miles. Unless of course your paying for some of the wear and tear. Same thing on detention. You are are delayed as well as the owners truck.
Hand unloads should go to the driver. Border crossings I have seen go either way depending on who is paying for the fast card, transponders ect.
Some companies don't pay anything on the border.Same with the NE runs. Some companies do, and some don't.
