Not acceptable: legislators need to base law upon fact, not what 'too many people made it out to be'. Anyone who has ever read a newspaper is aware that it can happen to men, so I have to wonder why the morons who wrote the bill didn't know....
Things like this make me extremely skeptical of the politicians' claims that they'd make more money in the private sector - many don't seem to have the smarts to be a Walmart greeter. [And for this they get paid for the rest of their lives?!]

PS The article had no 'link' or 'share' icon, so I tried following Turtle's directions for posting links, but I don't seem to have a 'magic clipboard' to paste it to....

Well of course is isn't acceptable, but so are a lot of other things.

The problem is as I said, politicians sees it as one issue for one gender and takes their que from that leaving out the rest of it.

BUT IN FACT I think that it may not even be a legislation issue but a policy issue which the state allows the bureaucrats to write without oversight. So your complaint would not be with the politician but his keeper.

I think there are ways out of this situation for the person, one is to move out of Charleston and live in Savanna - different state, different rules. Another is to get a lawyer and fight it or get some help from other sources (probono doctors) - which ever he does, I hope he doesn't face it for long without treatment.

Heres what i found

Breast and cervical cancer prevention and treatment act of 2000. public law 106-354 106th congress. This passed with 421 yes votes and one no vote in the house. It was unanimously voted in favor of in the senate.then on OCT 24 2000 Bill Clinton signed it into law.

Then on jan 15 2002 Bush signed a technical amendment to include native american women under the act.

Very sad really only 1% of all breast cancer cases each year are men. With 450 men dieing each year from it.It is sad that no one had the IQ to include men. However I think he needs to get a lawyer, then he still has a uphill battle getting help.If you read the ACT it is pretty clear that it was written for women only to be covered under this act.Which is wrong!! everyone in washington droped the ball on this one.

True, but it doesn't metastasize and kill them!
The incompetence of these guys just blows me away - not ONE person said "It isn't just women"?!

You mean this link
Breast Cancer Patient Denied Medicaid Coverage Because He's a Man

Well here is the thing, too many people made this out as a woman's only cancer and the states pretty much followed that line.

Cancer is cancer, no matter who has it or where it is.

My uncle has had a double mastectomy, radiation and chemo.

All humans have "breasts".

It isn't like he was claiming ovarian cancer for cryin' out loud.

While possible, men do not contract breast cancer as frequently as females. The physiologies of female breasts make them more susceptible to tumor growth and metastasizing. It's something Raymond Johnson, 26, of South Carolina knows all too well - and his Medicaid won't pay for treatment. S.C. man denied breast cancer coverage by Medicaid. I just don't get why could they become so sexist. This man needs treatment. We should just be aware this is serious and just help each other in anyway possible.

You guys are starting to cause me to believe that ALL politicians ain't got the brains of a gnat.
It's enough to make a person become apolitical.
