dot numbers

Today we placed D.O.T. Numbers on our cargo vans. Never really had the D.O.T. numbers on the smaller vehicles. Do we have to log when in the vans since we have the number displayed. I maintain a log because I am in the box truck most of the time and I go out of state the most. I know our van drivers do not want to log but if it is required then they will have to.

Looking forward to hearing from someone that might know about this issue.

Thanks

You need not log in a van unless carrying a placardable amount of Hazmat. I'm told that Alabama and New York require vans to log but I have never done so in thoise states nor Have I been challenged to do so.

My understanding of the log situation is that if you are performing a transportation related duty in the van, before or after driving a loggable truck, you must consider yourself on duty and apply the hours of on duty service to your log while driving the big truck.
