Another dumb stupid lesson learned...van was parked in garage since sunday...i constantly check my position on the pc and moved from 10 pos to 4 th on grand rapids board..so they didnt have a ping on me..started van backed out of garage and poof was 10th out..called and talked to the panther geniuses. and they say its because they didnt have a ping on me..but they could explain why i was going down in number or why the satallite pos never changed...if only i had a dollar for every excuse they have given me... i would never have to drive again...

Honda,

I know that the highrollers at Panther read this forum everyday. Perhaps they will honor us with an answer for this problem.

I find it hard to believe that putting your truck in a garage, or parking under a tree would effect your position on the board.

Let's see if they answer.

I don't know how Panther works but it is not that way at FedEx. We check in where ever we are and then go off of C-Link. They use the last place we pinged as our location. Everything else is then done by phone. Could someone have made a mistake and they then made up an excuse to cover it up? Layoutshooter

same thing at bolt. i live close to lak du michigan and i have very poor qc reception but i'm on the gps list of where i am and when i got there. when i go back into service i call the day before to remind the van group so i might get out right away in the morning.

It is always a good idea to be pro-active in business. A gentle reminder to dispatch when ariving home and then agian when you go back in service. We always call them when we are in an area without C-Link coverage too. Layoutshooter

I use to love when I'd show turning a load down I didn't even know about.I would tell Roberts I was at home, and would get dispatched by QC.Guess they thought it had a hook up to my PC.This was years ago though.

Panther needs to make a few corrections to their dispatch procedure (is hoping dave or shawn is reading this). What Panther needs to do is go off of the last position updated by the qc, and instead of sending the load offer over to the truck and waiting for the driver to respond, they need to call the driver (ask him if he is still in that location) and if he or she wants that load. So, in the unlikely event that a driver refuses a load, they can (within seconds) start calling the next driver and so forth. This will also speed up pick-up times, as the load will not be placed on that particular truck until the driver has verbally accepted the load, which will in turn make it easier for dispatch to find other trucks that may be interested in the load. If Panther were to employ this method of dispatching, they would drastically improve upon their driver acceptance and response times. Also, Panther needs to switch over to dwel time. Going by a drivers "dwel time" is the fairest way to dispatch available trucks on available loads. This is just a suggestion.

What do you guys think? Should I leave the wonderful world of expediting and pursue a degree in "industrial psychology?"

Industrial psychology won't work when dealing with corporate ADD.

If your on the C-link you should be offered the load on the c-link. Now if your out of truck on pager, and they send it out to you truck then the agent should be wrote up for sending it out to your truck when your on your pager on cell phone I think. It only take a few seconds to look and see if your on your cell phone and in most case's they can get the load cover faster. Just my thoughts.

This is my unofficial understanding that I hope will help you.
At Panther, there isn't a "check in call" when arriving to a board. Your satellite ping is what determines your arrival.

Second, with regards to losing board position because you are parked in a garage.

Qual-comm employs more than one satellite. You may be on one at arrival, but as the day progresses and it switches to the next, it can't obtain a location on you. After a prescribed period of time when the next picks up your truck it is time stamped.
Through the duration of time that it couldn't locate your truck and other trucks came onto your board with their times, they went ahead of you. Sometimes this can be witnessed when you are sitting in a location and at some point you lose your QC signal even though you haven't moved the truck.

Remedy
Do a macro 32 or 8 upon arrival in order to time stamp your location on that board. One can check via the Internet the board position and if anything is in question, call contractor relations. It is a quick fix for reinstatement of position if they have a time stamp with you on that board.

Lastly, when they send you a load, they may not always call right away. That is driven by the call and load volume. Sometimes many loads come in all at once. They will prioritize the earliest pickups first. Some loads are within a couple of hours while others may be 12 hours away. Thus the introduction of the text messaging. If a load sits on your qc for a extended period, it is because it isn't covered and doesn't have the same time restraints as what they are working on. Or....they just plain dropped the ball.

One more thing of note. The original dispatch program would circle a mile radius from the customer. As of roughly 30 days ago, it now revolves based on a percentage of DH miles against the loaded miles.

Hopefully that helps. If not, feel free to send me a email or PM.

Heres my story about the Qc(back when the boards were called different names)
I was in Kansas city 1st out all day on wed so I then dead head over to columbia and sit with the same result on thurs.I figuire maybee I should just eat the dh and goto St.louis.I then sit there all day friday. The entire time my qc signal had me jumping from one board to the next.I finally figured out to look on the drivers web to check my location on the sat positions.Long and behold Ive been jumping and losing my board position the entire time.I tried calling in and at that time it was impossible to get in and my call kept getting dumped.Ive learned to since that experiance to check my position online and make sure I get a time stamp off the qc.The phone system is a improvement, but still hard to get people to call you back.

There must be a Community College in Akron or something that has classes on "How to Not Call People Back" and apparently you have to be an "A" student in that class to work for Panther. It's pretty amazing how proficient they are, top to bottom, at avoiding calling people back, I mean, considering how incompetent they are at so many other things. They tell you they'll call you back, and then don't, later telling you that they got sidetracked with other, more important matters (in effect telling you that you aren't important). Classic.

Or even better, "I'll give them the message to call you back," and then later, "I never got that message."

Excellent! That's almost as good as lower back pain - somewhat believable, yet impossible to disprove. Nicely done!

Important is only relative to the person it applies to....
Any fool thats been doing this for any time knows NOT to rely on a call back....shesshh come on now guys....Turtle YOU know better....ONLY when it's important to THEM do you get called back....

Yes the QC is NOT perfect....Like Dave said better to said an update notice so the QC can time stamp your last position...it usually takes a sting or 2 to learn that lesson...

They screw up my settlement, for example, I call in, they say they'll call me back, I expect a call back. Anything less in unprofessional, rude and inconsiderate.

Turtle,
You dont even want to get me started on the incompetence in the scanning department. If it were up to me I'd fire them all.
Actually told them that once and they just chuckled it off.It kinda worked for a couple of weeks and then right back to a month late paying some of my settlements(not including the wrong FSC).
