This is what it looks like when you do things right. It was an almost perfect day to layout hunt. 45 degrees, a near perfect "layout wind" and we were in "the spot" for conditions. I took 6 in 20 minutes in the layout.

What a day!

Beer? With duck breast the way we do it? Never happen! It requires a fine, semi-dry red wine. Candles on the table. Soft lighting. Linen napkins tucked neatly into the front of your shirt. WE only do GORMETEE stuff at my house! Not bad for a couple of old geezers! :p After dinner maybe a single malt or a tawny port.

Joe, I hope the table cloth, soft lighting, and wine/after dinner drinks aren't to share ducks with only the other three comedians in the picture.

Two of those guys are long time friends. The guy in the front left, Jim Hill, just contacted us through DU. He was going to be in the area and wanted to know if there was any chance of a duck hunt while he was here. He lucked out. He contacted the ONE person who knows just about everyone on the Lake, a man who could make his wish happen, me. He was therefor blessed with a chance to hunt with the "Masters of the Lake." A hunt he will never forget.

The older guy in the back, is Dick Whitwam. He is a long time "River Rat". He has been hunting and fishing on the "River" since the 1950's. Dick donates several hunts each year to Ducks Unlimited and other such organizations. The other guy, Marshall Anderson, I have known since 2000. He was awarded the Michigan Ducks Unlimited Conservationist of the Year for 2012. His leadership in our DU chapter helped us to produce over 200K for DU last year. Not bad for a small town chapter. Dick's son Bob, was behind the camera. I have amazing friends. I am honored to know them all.

Comedians? No. That dinner, however, was a private one, just my wife and myself. We have, however, had MANY similar dinners with our friends.

My "nickname" is "Decoyslayer" which was WELL earned and the "event" was saved forever on film!I am quite proud of my "River Name". Dick's is "RiverWolf". His son Bob is "Magnum". Marshall is "Twobagger". We also hunt with a "Horizon", "Buckshot", "DU", "HipBoot", "Kodiak" and several other colorful people.

Most people are not "awarded" a "nickname" until they have hunted with us a few times. Nicknames have to be "earned". There are few, if any, nicknames on the "River" that are without meaning. It is a GREAT honor when the day FINALLY comes and you are awarded your name. We have hats with our names on them. I will soon have mine on my boat. It's great to belong. Even better when the bunch you belong to are outstanding people.

Dick's "charity hunts", which I always assist on, have raised thousands of dollars for conservation over the years. We also donate several "youth hunts" every season, which always draw a boat full of kids. It is SO much fun watching those kids. It is such a treat for us, reminds us of when we started and it's kinda nice to know that we are a part of those kids "life stories" from that day on. What a grand "pay check" that is for a few hours of work.

It was one of those days that we will talk about for years.

Will shoot you pm.

Thought the masses might be offended, or take it somewhere it shouldn't go.
