I am a driver who also volunteers to spread awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation through the organization Donate Life. Some of you may have seen our straight truck at the truck stops with a Donate Life flag in the windshield. Our truck is also conveniently blue and white with blue fenders, matches perfectly. I became involved with this organization because I have a nephew who received multiple transplants when he was just a baby. We have had a wonderful 10 1/2 years with a great kid who will go on to do great things and all because a family decided to share the gift of life when they lost their little one. I have shared our story with countless people since we've been on the road and have heard many stories of drivers with double lung transplants, kidney transplants, liver transplants and even heart transplants and drivers who are living donors, giving a family member a kidney. I have also heard the stories of families who lost loved ones because they were on a transplant list and there were not organs available. There have been countless families whose loved ones have given the gift of life. I have a high school friend whose son was killed in a car accident and donated his organs, 8 lives were saved and over 50 people's lives have been altered by his donations. My friend shares how much it means to her that her son made that decision when he was just 16 and how much difference it has made for her and her family knowing that he made a difference in the lives of over 50 people. Please join me in wearing blue and green on Friday to spread awareness! If you see us in the parking lot, please stop us and share your story and of course we have some goodies to share too. We have a window decal on the driver's side wing of our truck and usually the flag is in our windshield. Hope to see you all in your blue and green!
