My fascination with Appalachian music and songwriters only deepens over time. Admiring it as an art form, one acknowledges Dolly Parton is in a league of her own. The genius of "Jolene" is its simplicity. Here in an "All Things Considered" interview from NPR is the backstory to "Jolene" ...
I grew up idolizing Dolly. The first concert I ever went to was her and Kenny Rogers when I was 5. I remember breaking my piggy banks nose to get all my money to go.
In the town I am from, we have a music festival every year for traditional, folk, and bluegrass. It is an amazing experience and something you will never forget. It is the biggest thing that happens in our little town. Its been happening every year since 1974, and is heald in a field. If you are ever in the area you can even camp out in your truck or van. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheatland_Music_Festival
