Okay, I have been with the CC for almost as long as the A Team, and been on the side reading posts here for a few years now(yes just decided to start posting).
Fed Ex had a customer complain about 10 years ago when a contractor took her dog out on the customers property to do its business ... not a smart move. but we do not even service that account anymore(rates got too cheap so the loads were almost always turned down).
We have been doing this type of work in trucking for over 20 years now and this is the first carrier who has the no pet policy. at the other companies were with, we always under stood that at times one of us would have to wait at the gate as pets were a no no. And it was not problem! and when we came over here it was without a pet that was understood.
Now at the recent contractors meeting the subject of pets was brought up and the reply for on high was they were considering it. If they want to look at it from a security standpoint,a truck is almost 50 times less likely to be stolen or hijacked where pets are present. This is from F.B.I crime statistics relating to cargo thefts. And the size of the dog does not matter.I guess no one likes to be bit!
Plus it seems like it would be great thing for Driver retention as many of the well qualified teams that have been here Since the Roberts days have been leaving due to the Feds new policies. And as far as inspections go I do know that even someone who has been thru training HAS to get certified in each state he or she will be performing inspections. Being from Texas I know this to be true as it is state law that no one can perform an inspection on a commercial vehicle weather a state or fed inspection without being state certified( I know as Iam licensed in the state of Texas do do inspections.
I do not think that he is "checking or searching" sleepers but if he is there is NO way he will ever look in mine as it is a violation of my rights(according to my attorney Who I did call).
We have lost so many good contractors here because of new policy's that are only put in place to protect the company, save the company money or make them more at our expense like tying to get everyone on flat rate while still charging the customer the same . This too was tried years ago and all they got were loads that would not get moved, and new drivers and contractors that never should have been been "white glove"
Dont get me wrong this is where will will be untill this truck (our last )is paid off in another 2 years and then .. hmmm don't know yet maybe they will see the writing on the wall and show more appreciation for their contractors and we may stay another 7 years...Be Safe all!
