Does Anyone Use a Toaster Oven??

Jim and I are thinking of buying a toaster oven for our truck but I have never used one for anything other than toasting. I know they claim you can cook in them. What I was wondering, does anyone out here have one? I would like to use it for making things like pork chops, baked chicken and anything else I can think of to throw in it.

I don't have a toaster oven, but I love my George Foreman! :9

I always say this wrong but how hard would a toaster oven be on the inverter or generator? Our microwave will brown food, but when you use that function the truck also warms up just like a oven. It is sure a case of "If you cant stand the heat stay out of the truck" It warms up enough in there you want out even with the vents and fans going. I think the idea is great and if an toaster oven can be used I think it would be great.

I have to agree with Linda. I recently talked to Jake at Bentz about a convection microwave. He strongly suggested we not put one in unless we upgraded our inverter. Much of the time when I use a portable appliance, I place it outside on the steps or on the ground and use the block heater plug on the generator.

I have looked at the newer toaster ovens and see where they are available with a convection feature

I have the George Foreman and used it a couple of times but it makes such a mess! Both times I used it, it splattered grease on the wall and under the cabinets over the sink. So now it just sits in my cabinet taking up space. That's why I was thinking of the toaster oven. I do plan on checking them out when I am home for Turkey Day!
I'll let you know what I decide.

I know that the wonderful toaster oven that we had was just to much for our 3500 inverter. We had to get a new one and ditch the toaster oven.
We bought a electric burner like what you would find 4 of on a regular stove. Havent had any problems with it yet though it still does get a little warm in truck while cooking but that is to be expected. SO burner and pan and pot. Grilled cheese YAY and steaks and whatever else you could cook at home only one dish at a time lol.

I did have a toaster over in my big truck. It was a small Black & Decker that was 1550 watts. We used the heck out of it and its still going. Really all you have to do is check the wattage on the oven you want and make sure it doesn't exceed the wattage on your inverter. If I remember right, at the time we had a 1500 with 2000 peak inverter and never had a problem with it. You may have to shut something else off while its running but other than that I found mine to be very handy. It is fun when somebody calls and asks what you're doing and you tell them yo're baking a cake and they say, "wait a minute, aren't you in the truck?" Yup, I am, LOL Have a great day, be safe Carol

We have both and my wife LOVES to use them...She will buy things from Wal-mart like the little steaks wrapped in bacon for the George and the stuffed flounder...mmmmm. And for the toaster oven (TO) she makes those pigs in a blanket...croissants wrapped around the cheesy dogs...she has a certain type that she buys because they are pre-cooked. there is another type that need boiled first and thats a mess in the microwave. Also in the TO, I make the French bread pizzas, or tater tots, or anything else you can do in the oven.

Ok im hungry now!!!

Are12... you have to close the lid! ;)

Actually... I have a George Foreman clone. I can't remember the brand, but I'll let you know. It doesn't char like a George, but there's no splatter. I'm thinkin of taking our George from the house.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at a Black and Decker yesterday and I am almost positive it was 1500 Watts. I will have to check with Jim to see what watts the inverter is. Maybe I will have to run back up and get it!
Once again, thanks alot.
