I dont know if it needs to be a cell... but I think people need access to some kind of phone. I know a lot of lower income people, that the phone is 1st thing to go. I think it would be good especially for young mothers and elderly.

I think it is a great program....for a charitable organization to take on..but not the fed gov with the use of Taxpayer dollars...especially with the the US deficit at 14.1 trillion dollars...

If they need a phone then let them budget part of their welfare check or get help from family, friends church etc. That is why we are in such bad shape. You can get welfare, housing assistance, food stamps, phone, medical, childcare, soon internet. Everything has its own free help program. We as a country simply cannot afford it.

Just a note before someone goes there i believe this program started under W not our current spenders.

It is just an extention of the government feeling the need to "take care of the "income eligible "...in the state of Michigan and i am sure the other states (i didn't take the time to look at each states eligibility requirments) you already have to be on a Gov entitlement program:

My niece and her whatever, the sperm donor for her last kid, have 3 Obama phones. Neither of them work. Bums. No other word describes them better. Her father, my UAW left wing radical brother gives them "advice" on how to live without working and get all the things that they are "Entitled" to. Can anyone in here even fathom teaching your son or daughter to be bums?

I know what you mean. I used to live across the street from some people who were professional scumbags. Lived in Section 8 housing (yeah, thanks Mr Landlord, exactly what I wanted right across the street from me and my mortgage) got welfare, lived by sucking off of the government teet.

Don't get me wrong, I know people need help occasionally, hell, I have too, but when you make it your career to not work and live off of other people's taxes, something is wrong with you.

Nothing is going to be done. This is EXACTLY what those up in Washington want. Dependant bums are easier to control that independent, hard work people.

Here is one for all of you.

Got home today to find I had visitors who I help out with their shopping. Took them to the local Kroger.

We are standing in line and right in front of us there was a well dressed lady with a jacket that had the BIG UAW symbol on it, with the local number, it also had the plant name on it - Lake Orion.

She purchases a crap load of food, and it rings up to $454. She whips out her Bridge Card and has to pay for $17 of the difference - beer.

When we pay for the food, we got out in the parking lot where the lady is loading her Suburban up with the food next to my friend's beat up Ranger. It isn't an old suburban, it has a temp plate on the back so my visitor, who never seems to keep her mouth shut just had to ask the lady why she is getting welfare.

The lady went into the entire story on how she and her husband were laid off from GM and how they split to get help from the government and how many GM laid off workers are getting "their just reward for the hard work and sacrifice they made". While he returned to work, she is still waiting to be called back and until she gets called back, she is getting the phone, the checks and the food - not to mention the medicaid for the brats so he doesn't have to have them on his insurance (more money in his check). By the way with her GM discount, her new 2010 'burb payment is $385 a month.
