I'm never crossing the border again? Actually. I cleaned up that statement because, after all, this is a family friendly forum.
We get to the pickup, find out that dispatch has forgotten to inform us that the pickup time has changed from 11am to 2pm. Ok, fine, we get loaded about 1pm. Fax the paperwork. This is a Hazmat load, out of Windsor, so it's up to Port Huron.
Panther uses ViaSafe for ACE, the paperwork clearly states, dispatch will inform drivers when the load has cleared. Dispatch has never let us know, we always have to ask. Ok, no big deal, but if that's the way it goes, then why say dispatch will inform drivers?
Anyway, we are about 20 min out from the border, ask dispatch are we clear? Nope...
Go to Duty Free to wait, wander around for about 1/2 hour, ask again, nope. Ok, this goes on for about 3 hours it's now 6:30pm, paperwork was faxed at 1pm. Ask dispatch again...nope, Livingston is short handed and the computer is down, bla bla bla....
Border official comes by and informs us that duty free parking has a 5 minute time limit? And, that by crossing through the toll booths without being cleared, we are subject to a 5000.00 fine. They aren't enforcing it right now, but still, it's nerve wracking.
Ask dispatch again, have been told about 20 minutes for the last 2 hours. It's now 8:20pm and here we sit.
Just a thought....wasn't ACE suppose to make this easier and FASTER?!!
