toxic to eat if not prepared just right. but if meat is prepared right it is a very tender meated fish

Both, the barbs that poke out secrete toxin iirc.
The asian culture uses them as sushi but as stated, if not prepped correctly it will be your last meal.

One country uses the toxins as in a voodoo zombification recipe in which the body is put into a state of hibernation where most doctors will pronounce the person dead. There is a town where people are buried with vents in the graves so that the care takers can hear people yelling to get out if they were mis-pronounced dead.

You can see that the diver carefully - but firmly grabs the fish. Wow, so he could have been hurt by doing that.

Also, it occurred to me that when the fisherman who originally caught the fish may have cut it loose once he realized what was on the other end.

That's why when fishing for shark, or anything really, you should use regular steel hooks. Eventually they'll rust out of the fish's mouth if you can't remove the hook.
