Where can we all get discounts during our day-to-day lives on the road? Here's a couple to get started.

Flying J 4 wheeler/RV pumps. For each 20 gals bought, using a frquent fueler card, you'll receive credit for a half shower and a half beverage. Fill-up twice, you get coffee and a shower. Better yet, get a frequent fueler card for your co-driver...or your dog...ask the fuel desk attendent to "link" your two cards, and you'll each receive half credits for one 20 gal purchase. Same is true for the diesel folks in the big trucks but you, of course each get a whole shower.

Flying J and Petro also quite liberal with the "old peoples" discount at the restaurant counter. 10% off the food just for the asking. The younger the cashier, the older you look. just ask.

All HMS Host travel plaza locations on will give you a 15% discount on food and beverage if you ask and indentify yourself as a "Road Warrior". This is good on Atl City expwy, and following turnpikes: DE, FL, Garden St, ME, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA and WV. Ask for application and Marriot Corp will send a card every year.

If you are familiar with ebay,and you know what states you will be in,there is a seller on there that all he sells is restaurant certificates.I have gotten $25.00 gift certificates for as little as $3.00. His ebay user name is "restaurant.com" This is on the up and up---You can look to see what he is selling by whatever state you choose. Hope this helps.

Frequent Fueler card works for gas or diesel. I don't know minimum for the ON locations so I always get 80 liters to be sure and get my credits. Real clean showers in London, ON. The card also provides coupons for food at the rate of 1 cent per gal. They mail out every month and I usually get $10/$12. Use same card when buying restaurant and they add a dollar to the coupons for every $20 spent.

I think terryandrene are using the best one. They have a card at Loves which saves a penny a gallon, and the pilot has one you accumulate points towards merchandise. We never use pilot unless we are plain desperate. Their fuel is usually much higher than anyone else. They discount fuel to the biggest carriers (JB, Schnieder) then pass their difference on to the owner operators. So if you are a owner operator buying fuel at Pilot, you are probably paying for some of the fuel in the JB truck in the next isle. Of course they would probably deny that this happens, however they can't explain why they are 3 to 10 cents higher than their competitors. Our company does have a fuel discount program that one can use at TA,Ambest, and I think Petro. Discounts usually won't beat flyin j unless you are filling up.

Without a doubt the Flying J has the best fuel program for smaller units. However, they don't accept Comdata.

Dave,you need to get back with FDXCC, they have a program with Pilot that rebates .05 cents per gallon back to the truck if you purchase fuel on the Com Card.Last yeatr I received over $200 in rebates but only buy fuel from a Pilot that has competition where they are,otherwise the prices are high. Also using their frequent Fueler card gives you an additional .01 rebate on their card.
FDXCC also has a decent discount with Goodyear for tires.

Hey Rich, that is a good deal. Taking .05 cents off their price brings them alittle more in line. Do you have to use comdata? In some instances it may erode the savings if you have to use it. I had to look at my carrier book and realized they discount at kwik-trip or kwik-star as well. As far as tires, Panther has a discount with Goodyear tires and Kelly. My last set of steer tires I bought, I opted for Bridgestone and had to use my ooida discount. It took off roughly 45.00 per tire.

Yes you do have to use your Com Card.It costs a $1.55 to load it and then you get 3 hits off it for free then pay $1.00 for each additional hit.I do 2 fuel fillups ,then write a check to me for the balance,so I only pay$1.55.
We also get a couple of cents off per gallon at Loves,Wilco!s and Petro.

Fuel discounts seem to vary considerably, by carrier and geographically. Comcard users with FDXCC get 3 cents at participating petros and 5 cents at Bordentown and Scranton. Numerous others listed on the FDXCC extranet. Other carriers surely have comparable arrangements for fuel, tires and eqpt.

Now, how 'bout sharing those day-to-day, on-the-road discounts such as those Chaz and I previously mentioned.

I am drawing a blank on this one. I am either making too much, or not looking hard enough. The only other one is the dicount you can use with AAA. Never had to use it but it would give you a set rate on a tow bill for straight trucks or vans. Doesn't apply to TT. Only one I can think of.

This goes a different direction than discounts but please bear with me. I once heard of an expediter that uses his American Express card to buy everything...food, fuel, supplies, repairs, everything. He then uses his credit card loyalty points to pay for overseas vacations.

With American Express, fuel will cost MORE at Flying J. But fuel is also deductible. I don't know if theis approach is worth it but it's something we'll research after we get into our own truck (driving for a fleet owner now). Perhaps a few cents a gallon more at Flying J is worth it when you consider the value of your American Express loyalty points. If people out there are taking this approach I'd sure like to hear more about it.
