Disaster Overload

Is it me or did I just miss the point entirely.

The Haitian people are going to rebuild the parts of their country that were destroyed, the estimated cost will be $3B over a 10 year period - most of the funds seem to be committed from countries who are willing to help. This includes new hospitals, new schools and so on within a short amount of time. This is above and beyond what I understand will be money spent on helping the people.

On the other hand the last news report I found was New Orleans which still hasn't been rebuilt, the levees are still a problem and they will need a total of something like $14B to completely rebuild the city and $9B for the levees which does not including the $40B obama has promise for the gulf coast to be get to help all of them along which I think a large amount of the money will go to the N.O. cause. Someone can correct me on the numbers.

Did I miss something?

Why is it that the United States is going to end up picking up most of the tab? Where are the great socialist states? They are better, kinda, more compasionate and morally greater than we capitalists are, let them pay for it!! Oh that's right, they have no money, they are all more broke than we are. Guess socialism ain't what it is cracked up to be.

We can no longer afford to be the worlds rebuilders. The U.N. has been down there for years, NOTHING has been done. Where is uncle Fidel? Where are all that Stalinists?

We need to spend our disaster money here. It needs to be spent in such a way that it works!! Not just handing out funds. Pumping in welfare and handouts. Make the people do that work for themselves. They have no business sitting on their butts, collecting my wages and doing nothing in return.

Well seeing the UN in action first hand I expected something like this to happen sooner - there was a problem with food distribution in the city and a riot was breaking out, the UN used pepper gas to disperse the crowds. I saw this happen once before where the UN came in with water hoses and troops in riot gear with loaded weapons to move the staving people away from the food. Can you give me a two letter abbreviation for compassion?

The U.N. (useless nuts) is a nasty bunch who only look out for their own pockets. They, as a group, don't give on flip about the people. They need to go.
