Directional signals and A/C

When I drove for Dave, we had a funky directional signal that also controlled the wipers. For no apparent reason, when I changed lanes, the wipers would go across my windshield and smear all the bugs so that I couldn't see. I could be sitting at a stop light, and the wipers would decide it was a good time to smear some more bugs. We got it fixed, and, if I remember correctly, it was a recall and didn't cost Dave for the replacement.

Well, I'm driving a 2005 M2 for A. Blair, and I have the same problem. Hopefully, I will get it replaced today here in El Paso. But, we are going to have to pay for it.

Anybody else have this problem?

#2. I hate the A/C and Heat in a Freightliner. I don't think I have ever had a Freightliner operate correctly on the dash A/C. This includes straight trucks and Class 8's. Right now, my A/C works when it wants to. I can put the fan on the lowest setting but it thinks it should freeze me out of the cab. My last Columbia that I drove did the same thing. The sad part is, it won't continue. It will run that way for a while, then just stop blowing. I don't have any frozen hoses. I have sufficient freon. I know it is still air conditioning, but the "cold" is only dropping out of the vents rather than being blown out. In other words, the fan just decides it doesn't want to blow anymore.

So, if I turn it off for a while and open my windows so that I don't bake, I can turn it back on after 5 minutes or so and get 15 minutes of A/C before the fan :censoredsign:s the bed again!!!! I just hate it!!!!

My Columbia did that too, except, it was winter and I would get A/C when I needed heat. I would have to wear a coat until the heat would decide to start pumping out of the vents.

Has anybody else experienced this? I get so frustrated with Freightliners sometimes.

I would love a solution if you know one.

We have had that problem twice now!! Once under warranty and the second time Bob was able to fix it following our dealers suggestions.

You will need to get some die electric grease from a parts store as the trucks stops just give you a blank look when you ask about this.

The way you can tell if the grease is the problem is it will be very dark.

Unplug the turn signal switch both connections use some contact cleaner to clean the old grease out then apply new die electric grease plug back in. We where told the problem was caused by the original grease getting to hot and causing a short.

Chet,
Those things are a pain. We fixed it twice under warranty with one of those times after you were in it and went to the reefer truck.

Putting alittle grease on there as Linder mentioned seemed to do the trick.

On your a/c, it could be the pressure switch or a bad evaporator.
Even more so if it works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. Can't really tell until several items are checked out. Make sure you check the A/C filter if air supply seems limited.

Thanks. I'm headed to Freightliner in Lima, OH after I deliver in Avon Lake tomorrow. They are expecting me. I will tell them about the grease solution. They may already know it.

The A/C can freeze me out when it is running correctly. But, it doesn't last. It eventually just stops blowing. I don't know how that could be a filter problem.

Chet,
1) I had this problem after a few weeks in the truck and it was simply the switch cr*ping out on me. $5 switch and 45 minutes to install it (with lunch). It rarely happen when the heat was on for some reason.

2) There is a resister pack somewhere near the fan outlet before the air gets into the heater/ac section. This also could be the problem seeing it has a thermo fuse that will open if gets too hot.

3) The fan itself maybe going bad. My van's fan (look it rhymed) was going and it would work for 30 minutes and die. after a few weeks of that, it would end up going for 10 minutes and die and then just a few seconds and die. If I remember right, the fan is the easiest of the three to replace.
