Did my homework, researched on here, so I want to make sure I have this right

Hey everyone, I did my research on here, pieced some different threads together, and I want to make sure I understand this right.

Background: I am looking to drive for a fleet owner, looking to go solo (already read all the posts about team being better so already know all that, but unless there is a hottie out there with a trust fund who has a CDL and likes short Italians, I'm still going solo), I have a CDL B, local driving experience in Chicago, never expedited though, clean record, hazmat eligible (had it but did not renew it since I never used it), no home time requirements or needs (no family).

Question: So if I understand this right, generally it is still better to drive a straight truck as a solo over a van even with dealing with log books, HOS, inspections. My initial thought was that in a van I could drive harder, more hours, not have to worry about DOT regulations, and end up making more money. It seems like from my homework that this is a common misconception but you come out ahead money wise driving the straight truck (Plus more comfy for spending weeks out on the road). Do I have that right?

I have a few companies in mind that seem to be solo friendly, Do you have any recommendations from your experience which companies might be a better fit for solo drivers?
How difficult is it to find a fleet owner and company that will bring on solo driver new to expediting?

Thanks everyone for sharing your expertise and industry knowledge with this newbie.

Myself personally I prefer straight truck as to a van (more room and a little bit more of frieght opportunities ). Although I never tried a van in expediting.

Yes, you have it right. All things being equal in Load Opportunity World, you'd make more money in a van because of the limiting hours available to drive a big truck. However, in Real World Land, there are a gazillion vans making the load opportunities for vans far less than they are for straight trucks.
