Detroit is Bankrupt

Why is anyone surprised? Detroit is a FINE example of "liberal" spending and thinking. Detroit is what happens when the "takers" outnumber the "makers". Get used to it. It is the way it is now. The scum now rule.

Last time I delivered into Detroit downtown to the Main Post office, You drive thru the building and its a huge old falling down dirty place....I went in to check in and was dealt with very rudely by the Deck boss who told me take my truck and wait out on the street till they call me...OK i pulled outside right on the river side of the building and watched cars and trucks all speeding, weaving, and people living under bushes and trailers all around me....soon along came one of the TRAFFIC LADIES, that were featured on the TV show recently Parking Wars, she wasnt busy and I had a chance to talk to her about the city.

I asked her idf this was a good place to park all night and she said NO WAY IN HE$$ SHE SAID ITS WILD AS THE WILD WEST DOWN THERE AT NIGHT, Ok then we talked about the decline and whats caused it etc and how a beautiful city had become a trash can. She was very nice and then drove off, It took me about 5 hours to get unloaded there, the people working there were Rude, downright lazy and slow and didnt give a hoot about what that place looked like. It had trash everywhere, and broken down equipment everywhere, all the while trucks came and went.

I drove through the downtown area and was sad seeing trash and trash people living under bridges, and everywhere and it made me think is this whats happened to the American dream for this city....as you drive through other areas and see the factorys and buildings falling down, no services, hi crime, someplaces Ive delivered up there I felt like I should have had a M-16 with me....yet when you drive out by the lake its like Hometown USA, Rich and prosperity still there...

I took a train ride through the city once through the heart of the Old manufacturing district and its as if its been bombed, dilapidated, abandoned, stripped, stolen, graffitti, burned out, no street lights, no wires, no manhole covers.....what makes a person steal and destroy the very place they live and turn it into a jungle

Then you drive by Henry Fords expansive old homestead and it reminded my of Fort Custer in a wilderness of crazy....

Sad American story for a Proud city ....

I come from a distant land of " Hopes " and " Dreams " err......... something like that I think.

Well, you better "hope" that the nightmare, "dream", that is Detroit does not spread it's "virus" to the rest of the country! It's ALWAYS FATAL!

The Detroit bankruptcy news prompted me to read this article about Chapter 9 bankruptcy. It seems that politicians and their appointees still run the city, only now with more power, less transparency and less accountability than ever before.

I'm thinking Detroit was hit so hard because Detroit was so very automotive centric. I wonder if Detroit's % of loss equates to Big Auto's % of losses. But Detroit, of course, didn't yet have Obama to bail her out.

More power? Less transparency and less accountability? In Detroit? Not possible. :D

The MAFIA is more transparent than Detroit politicians.

Not really. Remember, this has been a freight train in a dark tunnel for Detroit for many, many years. Long before Obunner.

Detroit is in this mess because they have spent the last 40 years looking in the rear view mirror looking backwards at once was instead of out the windshield at what could be.

Add to that a totally corrupt government, oppressive taxes and mostly union control and the cake is done.

In the 60s, Detroit became the guinea pig city for the Great Society. IOW, they were a showcase of how the welfare state could take care of the intercity. On top of it, they got a socialist black mayor, who got rich off his job (how could that be?), in Coleman Young. Whites fled faster than Ethiopian chickens.

It was not so much the whites that left, it was more like ANYONE who wanted to lead a normal, productive life. I knew LOTS of blacks who bailed back then too. Even more after the watchamacalits tried to burn the place down in '67.

Just saying that is the "white flight" that libs keep whining about. Well... taking one's anger into the street, with burning and pillaging as a result, I'd flee too.

Back then, there wasn't really a place for blacks to flee to, in metro Detroit, other than Inkster.
