Dead Battery

I have been out of service for about a week due to a family crisis. My truck hasn't been started for several days. This morning the main battery was deader than Suzi Goose. Battery and truck are about 8 months old. I jumpered from my aux batt with the relay and got it started. Question: Does the QC drain current from the battery even if the QC is not active?

Thanks. :+ :+

Hey Prof:
I don't think that the QC would drain your battery, but if you have an inverter and leave it on it will.Happened to me about a month ago.Took a week off,and when i went back to start the truck it was deader than a doornail, was a funny sight watching my little 84 Honda civic jump starting my D unit.

hey, I had a class 8 truck that had a qc and i had to pull the fuse when i was off for any time, not sure it it was wired wrong/direct or what but thats what i had to do, plus like he said above, if u have an invertor on, or a refeg that stays on, that will kill it too, or it could even be as simple as a bunk light left on, good luck.:7

My truck can sit for about 5 days with NOTHING on and she is gona need a jump. Nature of the BEAST. I admit I do not have strong batteries, they are deep cycle so they can be run down and recharged without hurting the batteries. Thats the advantage the first is the disadvantage, while in service they are great for running all the electronics in the truck.

Talked to friendly neighborhood Chevy dealer today. He said, "Battery shot, gimme plastic". After a non tax deductible expense, I am ready to roll. Thanks. :+ :+

Hi
Yes the QC can run the batteries down. The QC comes on at set intervals and a small motor in the dome will revolve the satalite signal seeker thing untill it finds a signal. So always pull the fuse if you are going to be out of service for more than a few days.Another trick is if the battery is low when you come out to start the truck pull the QC fuse before trying to start. This will keep the QC from drawing what little volts your battery has left.Everytime you try to start the truck the QC goes through a system self test and trys to find a signal.By my voltmeter its drawing 1.5 volts while doing this.

Battery is definatly tax deductable.Running the battery down will ruin the battery.

Don't know whom you are running for but when I shut my Q/C off it's off period. Doesn't come back on until I turn on the ignition.

With the FEDEX software you can turn off the q/c using the following steps.
1 Click Option
2 Scroll down 1 to the unit address( will be a number)
3 Enter the unit address number.
4 Scroll down 5 steps till you see " Do you want to restart the unit"
5 Enter Y and the unit will shut off.

Another thing to remember is to pull the fuse any time you put the trunk in the shop for service. Who knows how many times the tech is going to start it up. That little motor in the antenna will go berserk trying to find a satellite while parked inside.Waste a lot of juice.

What I do is when the truck is going to be in theshop for a couple of days is too have Green change the shut off time to one minute.

Do you remember the time when we could change the shutoff time ourselves? Don`t know why they ever changed it.

I was looking around inside while waiting on my shower to be called and saw a solar panel about the same shape as a loaf of bread and maybe an inch thick. It plugs into the lighter socket and trickle charges the batteries. I doubt it would be adequate for a big truck but it would probably be enough to keep a van ready to start after sitting a while. I'm sure it would delay the big truck being to low to start but just don't know by how much. I think it was about $30. There are probably other versions available with higher output that could be found with some googling.

I remember when you could set the shut off time yourself and it would also trigger the pager when it shut off,so you could use it as an alarm clock.

If the battery is for your business vehicle, the expense of a new battery would be tax deductible, would it not?

Several days ago while waiting for a load, I installed a switch to energise my aux batt relay. Now, should my main battery get drained dead, I simply flip the switch, the relay is closed, and I have the starting power of three Wally World marine batteries. :+ :+

you know the best system is Blue Seas' BatteryLink ACR. Install it, set it and forget about it. It charges the battery and when it is isolated and the battery falls to a low voltage it cuts the battery out completly so not to ruin the battery. the cost is around $75 but ....
