ProHeat, Desinged by idiots for idiots!!!

Man this ProHeat sucks!!! Whoever designed this thing should have to live with one for his household needs!!! My belt sorta broke today. Not all the way so the unit kept running and I had NO idea that the belt had started to come apart. Due the the placement of the pulleys and wiring harnesses the frayed belt "ate" part way through a harness just enough to kill the engine. SO NOW, after the thing cools down, I have to tear the cover off, remove the old belt and re-wire the harness. This is the SECOND time that this has happened. I see no way to add guard in front of that harness to protect it from the belt when it does this. What fun!!! Never again will I buy a unit made by Teleflex!!

Get a thick rubber hose, slice it down the side, and envelope the affected section of the wiring harness within the hose.

I was just sitting here thinking about that very thing!!! Thanks for confirming my thinking!! I was sitting wondering if that would allow too much heat to build up on the harness but was ready to dismiss that idea!!

Maybe just replace the belt sooner? There will be glazing or cracks on it PRIOR to it breaking. Might want to check that from time to time. We have one of these units and have never had that problem. If they wear before say six months, realign the pulleys.

I did check it about 3 weeks ago and it looked ok then. I most likely should have replaced it sooner. It has been much longer than 6 months. It just failed funny, just like that last one did. Only a small part came loose and was flapping around. It is still on the pully. It was too hot to mess with today. I hope to get at it later in the week but would just prefere to run load then I don't need the APU!! Then fix it on Sat with a pre-dispatch for Monday!! Am I not asking for too much am I? :D

I wouldn't overlook the obvious. I would recommend checking the belts, oil, and water every other day or 24 hours of operation. Three weeks is a long time depending on how much you use it. We replace belts on these and rigmasters every six months whether they need it or not.

Your right, I should check more often. That belt was changed in Jan. I guess I will put it on a six month rotation to be safe from now on. I don't claim to be good at this mechanical stuff. I have to learn the hard way. You would think I would have gotten past that by my age, eh? LOL!! My wife says our school colors are "Black and Blue" since we have got most of our educaton at the "School of Hard Knocks"!!!

A buddy of mine took his Proheat belt into the part store and got one of those green colored agriculture belts that are used on lawn mowers and farm equipment, he said it is alot stronger made with kevlar and works a whole lot better.
