Current Miles for Teams

I contacted Panther about team driving in a straight truck. When I asked about general miles their teams are currently getting I was told lately on average they are getting 2,400 to 4,000 per week (I understand the various variables in the equation, i.e load acceptance, in-service time, etc.).

Question: (1) For you Panther teams is this a true average and (2) (not to Start World War III) for you other teams leased to FedEx, Tri-State is this roughly what you are getting?

I can't speak for Panther drivers, but 2400-4000 sounds more like a potentially achievable range than an average.

I can share the FedEx Custom Critical published averages, for a large straight truck (D), for the past few years. These numbers are the total miles in a year divided by 52 weeks. Some weeks, of course, were considerably more, some less.

2001 = 1672 miles and 2359 miles for the top 10% producing trucks.
2002-2004 = 1903 miles
2005-2006 = 2306 miles

These numbers alone don't mean very much unless you also know average revenue per mile; average deadhead/loaded ratios; average availabilites; average truck type such as dry box, reefer, liftgate, average accessorial charges; average driver qualifications such as A&E, Nuclear, or constant surveillance.

Sounds right on the money....our trucks last week averaged 3669 miles. Some lower of course some higher. 5 trucks running 3 off. (panther)

Our odometer shows an average of 12,000 miles a month; some of which is loaded, deadhead, and simple wandering around. As with Terry's averages, any specific numbers I'd share about our team results would not mean much either. FedEx pays by percentage of the load, not the mile. Under such a system, we tend not to ask how many miles we can get but how much money we can make. How much money a team can make is contingent on numerous variables, many of which Terry mentioned.

Bottom line, a good team can do well at either carrier.

never will I work on a mileage contract again, percentage is the best mode of payment, sure sometimes the load might not pay what you would like, but you dont have to worry about sitting around as much 'cause the company doesnt want to pay you for empty miles.
in a years time,i run less miles than a solo driver at a truck load carrier, and my income is better thwn double that same owner.
the name of this game is not run harder, but smarter

And...I am the other way around. Too many ripoff artists out there. Just check with ooida. Hundreds of them. Percentage only has a value if you are getting the actual freight bill. Not third party or some other bs, but what the customer ACTUALLY pays.
Then it is great!
And ACTUALLY recieve a copy of that bill.
We have been burned one too many times from carrier/broker percentages.
As for miles, that hasn't been a problem milage or percentage.
