I would like to see if there could be some discussion about the effects of our ecomomy to the expediting industry. I read one article that the trucking industry should pick and get stronger for 2008. Are most of the companies still getting enough freight to keep making money? All I hear about are the layoffs from all around the country. This seems that the freight would or could slow down along with retail purchasing, manufacturing, etc. What`s the word on this subject?

Industry publications have been using the term "freight recession" for some time now. Overall, freight is down from previous levels. As trucking is considered a leading economic indicator, some are pointing to that as one of many indicators that say a recession is on its way and maybe now underway.
That portends a continuing soft market for freight in general.

Will that translate into slower freight for expediters? Time will tell but I believe it is safe to say that some will be busier than others, and at profitable levels, despite a recession.
