Cost cutting measures

I only fuel at j/pilot when I need a shower. The rest I fuel at other places like Kroger, walmart, racetrac, raceway, etc. Gas buddy app helps here. Haven't had a fuel problem in 600k + miles.

I stopped in a walmart today for supplies. There was a flatbed TT getting murphy diesel for .10 less than the pilot down the road.

One of our lease to own drivers runs his truck at 58 mph and he puts an extra $500.00 in his pocket each week from just slowing down and fueling at TA truckstops.

One of the biggest cost savers is to not dead head to a truck stop after every load. Drop and park. This thing some carriers have with express centers or boards to be close to is kinda a needless thing. Most don't really think about how much extra it costs. I guess what I am getting at is, be more self contained in your vehicle so you don't need to run empty as much. Cut mileage, cut expense and gain profit.

Pilot $3.99 cash price.....just down the road 1/4 mile, Murphys, $3.83....if you didn't need shower credits why wouldn't one fuel up at Murphy's?.......100 G =$16.00 that is the cost of the shower plus a coffee....

Been our motto for a long time.

La price, LA pilot..... $3.83. Across the street at circle K, $3.61. That's a .20 cent discount. Same price at chevron.

Yeah, LaPlace is a pretty dramatic illustration, because you don't have to go hunting at all to find the cheaper price - it's literally right across the street.

But if your staying at the j you will burn a gallon of fuel or maybe more getting to the Walmart and back. If using our deal at load1 you will pay cash price plus another 5 cent discount. All of the above reduces the savings if one has to travel far for a lower price.

It's 16 miles round trip from the J to the Murphy pumps and back to the J, so yeah, if you're already at the J then you're better off getting fuel there, as long as you're not going south from there at any point.

If you deliver to (or pickup) anywhere in Killam Industrial Park, it's about 3 miles from there to the Murphy pumps and works out to be about 5 miles out of your way to get fuel there. If you deliver over off Nafta or Eastpoint, back in that area, it's about a mile out of your way.

So if from the J to the Murphy is your sole trip, it wouldn't be prudent. But if you fuel at Murphy as part of picking up or delivering, or certainly as part of going to Walmart, HEB or Best Buy for some reason... there ya go.

Walmart Credit Cards save an additional 5cpm on Murphys, and a BP pump rewards Visa saves you 15cpm. Just pay them off every month and you can save of money. No more comdata fees ect.ect. + your not supporting the Crooks at Flying J/Pilot who view thier customers as nothing but stupid sheep. Comdata charges 1.50 everytime you get gas, thats 15.00 evey 10 fillups. With a Bp Visa you get 15cpg up to 20 gallons, thats 3.00 each fill up, 10 fill up =30.00 you saved. If you add the 15.00 saved from no longer using comdata, then thats about 45.00 a week saved.

Don't buy your fuel at Pilot if your a reefer truck. Back when I was still driving with FedEx Custom Critical I bought all of my fuel at Pilot only. I was on a high value reefer load and the reefer shut down. We went into Carrier to get it fix and they pulled the fuel filter off and found that it was almost full of water. They put a new one on and let it run for 15 minitues and it shut down again. Carrier pulled the filter off again and it was almost full of water again. They drained our fuel tanks and found about 15 gallons of water in each tank. Since then we don't permit our drivers to buy fuel at Pilot or Flying J.

I fuel at pilot all the time the only time I ever had a water problem was at a meijer. Not a reefer.

Murpheys, most speedways, Kroger etc. are not paying for acres of of pavement, maitenence and more I can understand why their fuel prices would be a little higher.

People are making great suggestions here.
